Wait time before spraying 2K clear
« on: April 07, 2024, 02:14:13 PM »
When applying Spraymax 2K aerosol clear over aerosol lacquer, how long should I let the lacquer dry first?

Dang! It must take you forever to complete an airplane.

lol, That info came from a guitar site.

I try to wait a week between finishing systems nitrate/polycrylic/rustolium but for lacquer I'd give it at least 2 weeks.

Does setting the model in the sun help speed up the outgassing process or whatever?

At least some users of dope wait times measured in months at several points in the process, particularly after fillercoat/primer. Have to let it outgas and shrink as long as possible before sanding it.

I do not think it is the UV (sunshine) as important as is heat.  What used to work for me was to leave the airplane in the car in the sun for a few days.  At first when you open the car you will smell the paint gassing out.  Air-out the car before day 2. I'd suggest doing this for maybe a week or so.  When you can't smell it gassing off (paint farts?) then it is pretty stable.

Of course lacquers continue drying for years - ask anyone who used to use Aero Gloss!
