« on: September 03, 2013, 09:37:15 AM »
I went to the team trials so I lost a few days sanding. Not a lot to see except I made the decal (logo) for this plane. Yes Igor bigger teeth  LL~.

All the clear and wood work done it should go to color this week.

I am not finishing with DC 540 this plane. So for spot I used Brodak white prime and a brush in bad spots only. The rest is clear dope only. I'm looking for a 8 ounce finish

Robert,

At this particular stage of construction, are your control surfaces permanently in place?

It went to white today. Two coats and I put it al back together and it weighs 52.8 So I am thinking with trim and clear 55-56 ounces. I made my goal if I don't get crazy.

As seen here 53.5 oz. I am thinking with trim and clear 55-56 total. This weight plane can be done but it ain't easy.

Looking real good, Bob.

I saw this plane in Muncie at the Team Trials. Bob brought it along for us all to peruse. It is just flawless. But, that is typical for Mr. Storick.

Thanks for the praise Bob but I would not go as far as flawless. I keep striving for perfect but just can't make it. Such as life. I did spend 2 months on this one so it should be twice as good as my last.

On everyone of your planes I am guessing. I just wanted to show how I hid the hatch. The paint job blends it right in. Instead of trying to hide it I used it as the paint job.

Charles;

Scroll back up to Sparky's 'reply #5'.  He addresses that he used spot filler only, and nothing but clear dope as a base layer.  Later in the thread he shot the white base coat, and then the red / blue, getting the model to where it is now...

8 looks great but I think I do like this one better in white. I like the wider red stripe behind the blue on the wing on this one too.

I was just thinking as I scrolled down here, you might want to reconsider using the new Viper logo as it's shown above. It's a really cool design but the colors aren't going to go well with the red white and blue plane. I really think you should add the red and blue graphics on the tail surfaces too, it just completes and balances the overall look.

I'm meaning no offense at all here Sparky, V9 looks great so far, just offering a little constructive criticism. H^^

Me too thanks.

Here are some shots today. All that's left is ink and clear. I will add some things like USA and Viper in places. Tomorrow I have to go to the sign shop for some stencils.

As seen in this picture The battery is far forward but I do have some other battery holders to move it back after flying it. You will also notice mucho motor offset, I will not get caught up on the zero motor offset again. The wing has 1.5 inches asymmetry. No dumdum added.

here it is in photoshop

Again, I'm seriously meaning no offense here Sparky, I'm just trying to offer some advice viewing it out here from the "peanut gallery"...

I'm sticking with my original opinion, the Viper logo is cool but the green and yellow colors just don't match anything on the plane. Overall it ends up looking like an otherwise classy, very well executed red white and blue scheme, but then with a 25 cent gumball machine sticker stuck on the tail. Just hate to see anyone "cheapen up" an otherwise great looking model.

Maybe if the Viper logo colors could somehow be adapted to shades of red and blue along with the white? Something like a lighter blue where it's green and then grey where it's yellow, leaving the lettering in red?

Or, you could leave the logo as it is, but change the blue on the plane to lime green. (I know that's not going to happen, just thinking out loud...) ;D

Again, I'm seriously meaning no offense here Sparky, I'm just trying to offer some advice from the "peanut gallery"...

Long before any opinions I was going to do something different. So its a wait and see thing. Just like the pilot in my S6B I'm not doing it.

No problem Sparky, just tossing it out there.

Anyway, as soon as you finish this one I'm sure we'll probably start the whole process over in about 30 days. ;D
