Using vinyl. not bad!!
« on: December 06, 2012, 02:39:08 PM »
Though I do appreciate a good painting job, I decided to try something different and asked CFC Graphics
to make some stickers for me.
Charles was kind enough not to let me down, and got me exactly what I wanted.
Hope I make justice to his work.
It's not finished yet, but I liked very much, easy to apply and easy to trim. ;D

Marcus,

Looking good so far!!

Will you put stripes on the wing tops? You should have enough material.

Looking good .....is the vinyl "lightweight" or is it thick and adds a little bit of weight ?

Yes Charles, you did send me a lot of stuff!
But i didn't think about the stripes on the top... anyway, Gene, no weight at all.
I liked very much the service and the final result, it was worth every penny.
By the way, going to the club in a few moments to fly that ship. #^ #^ #^
Hope it flies as well as it looks.

Thanks Charles/CFC Graphics

Marcus,

You should have stripes on the wing tops also. You see that the most!

If you need more material, I'll send it free of charge.

Just let me know.

They are just for decoration, no reference to any war or anything, just wanted to have a good looking model.

Marcus,

Those "kill" stickers were drawn on the plans in ink. Remember?

Who designed the model?

Steve does make a good point about those markings.

Little heat and they will come right off.

I could make and send something else?

Also, a bit of heat will take that star and bar off your right wing.

I can replace it. You should have stripes on the top of both wings. A suggestion.

No charge for any of that!

Let me know.

Don't worry. This model is finished already.
I've sprayed the two-part clear and am absolutely happy with the result.
Two things here:
We should start talking about my next project and you were right about the two-part, next model I will take to a body shop and have it done. I have limitated room to do it and the mess is not worth it.
I do recommend CFC Graphics services... Top notch!!

If you do don't tell us about it or have a photo made unless you have the gun in your hand with you in the paint booth.   Really I could care less about who shoots the final coat of finish on a plane.  It  is the basic construction that makes a finish come out right.

The first take off was one of the most amazing ones I've ever had...She ran smooth and lifted from the ground so beautifully, like a Mustang should.
I started doing a few stunts just to get the "feeling" and she's docile, predictable and esy to fly. Have had a few engine issues , but the model is excellent.
A smooth landing and I was 100% satisfied with her.
Everybody told me these profiles WWII from Brodak were good... theywere right!! #^ #^
Intend to build one ME 109 soon.

The Brodak warbirds are great designs.   Everyone I have built has almost flown right off the board.  Engine issues on one kept me from doing the pattern  first time out.  Glad yours is working for you.

Yes, I kept the plans set up, only added a brodak adjustable pushrod kit, the one with the ball links, so it would be easier to get it right.
The model is very good and easy to build and with a little work, it looks great!

One question about the vinyl graphics, did you clear over them or use wax?

I shot the clear over the vinyl, to prevent any edges coming off with time, or cleaning.
There was no adverse reaction, like the clear attacking the stickers or anything like that.

Marcus,
Just for information what clear did you use, what reducer and how much.

I had some vinyl letters have the edge roll a bit after I sprayed Sig Lite Coat clear with 60% Brodak thinner. Do you know the brand of vinyl? I also cut out some graphics from a sheet of Coverite vinyl and sprayed the same clear with no problem. I don't know the brand the shop used for the lettering that rolled.

Maybe the clear was put on too heavy at first.   Always start with super light coats and stay light until enough clear is on.  My thoughts and experience even with Mnokote graphics.

It was the regular two-part, but I can't remember the brand. The vinyl you will have to ask Charles at CFC graphics, he did them for me.
As long as you do what Doc said you shouldn't have any problems.
Shooting the clear is an art, like my friend Marlus says, he is a master painter. I myself don't like to shoot clear, I've got a heavy hand, but only practice makes perfection S?P

As to who designed this Warbird, it was my late good buddy, Mike Garmon.  The P-51 was the first of the series.  He also designed the Sea Hurricane, Me-109, FW 190, and the Zero.  All of those use a shortened '57 Green Box Nobler wing.  IIRC, Mike said he removed rib #1 and used #2 through the tip rib.  I was fortunate to build the Zero Prototype, and it is the best flying profile I have ever had.  Powered that one with an "OLD" (well used!
