Time betweeen Coats
« on: March 24, 2014, 05:18:31 PM »
Gentlemen,

Getting to the finishing phase of this years aircraft.

1.  Put on the first coat of DC540 gray Primer.
2.  Sanded aircraft.
3.  Put on 2nd lite coat of DC540 Gray Primer.
4.  Light sanding.
5.  Sprayed on a lite coat of SIG Nitrate clear dope.

How long should I wait to put on the silver epoxy paint over the dope?

Thanks for your advice.

Is the primer dry? If so start painting. I didn't see you added a extra coat of dope. So wait a day if its a light coat. If heavy coat of clear two days. I go from primer to color. That DC 540 is great stuff huh?

Robert,

The primer is dry.  It has been on the aircraft for 5-7 days before I sprayed on the dope.

Thanks for your EXPERT advice on painting.

Robert,

The DC540 is a good product.

Been purchasing the DC540 Gray Primer form the local NAPA store for $3.78 a can.  Last time I purchased a case (12 cans) of the primer for $2.99 a can.  That is a savings of $9.48.

It is worth other builders to check out the case price.

Michael,

Did you purchase the case from NAPA?

Basically, if you let the primer dry a day or so and when you sand it, it sands smooth without clumping on the sand paper it should be good to go.

One of the flaps on the ARGO was at 19 grams. After the 540 and sanding it weighed 21 grams. I do have a bit more sanding.

This is why I try to board the model out and remove as much primer as possible.
