sealing Ultracoat trim
« on: April 03, 2010, 03:32:10 PM »
Mostly I've used dope when I lived near Sig.  Now I've switched to using Ultracoat but this stuff after a while tends to lift at sharp corners of the trim.  How do you guys seal this stuff down?

If it's a small area such as the tip of a star or the end of a narrow stripe, I scuff the surface with a small piece of 400 grit sandpaper.  Then I use a wooden toothpick to apply a dot of clear finger nail polish.  You can use CA if you use one of the small tube type applicator tips.  If it's a large area pulling loose, I usually apply a pin stripe tape or cut a narrow strip of Ultracote and iron it over the edge that's pulling up.  You can also use the same color to just expand the pattern by 1/4 inch.  Good luck.
