Rustoleum Spray Cans
« on: October 26, 2012, 06:58:10 PM »
I just started using a new can of RUSTOLEUM red spray paint, and found that held vertically all I'm getting is propellant.  Tilted or upside down it sprays just fine.  Is this normal?  Has anyone else had this problem?  Unfortunately finding this out caused me a paint run.  Can RUSTOLEUM be sanded once dry?

Richard,

Sounds like the supply tube inside the can has separated from the nozzle at the top of the can.  Not normal.  I'd return it for an exchange.  Regarding sanding, it is almost impossible to sand Rustoleum.  But, if you let it cure for at least a week, you may be able to sand it to a smooth surface.  That will remove any runs you've got, but you will not be able to reclaim the shine.  The surface will have to be re-coated.

Let it dry at least two weeks, then you can wet sand it.  Don't even try to dry sand it, unless you have lots of sandpaper to use/clog up.  After sanding with 1500/2000, it can be rubbed out with Brasso and look pretty decent.
