Respirator Cartridges
« on: May 21, 2012, 07:21:59 PM »
Last time I tooted Isocyanate Death Paint, I got some AOSafety R53HE-P100 respirator cartridges.  I cannot find them anymore on the Web, and the guys I bought them from before are out of business.  Where can one get these, or what's a replacement?

Those cartridges are extinct.  It looks like AOSafety got absorbed into 3M.  I guess I'll get me a 3M mask and the appropriate cartridges to go with it.

Howard, I had the same exact problem with my aosafety. Ended up with a new 3m and my old mask is doing duty as a fancy dust mask. The other good investment while your at lowes is the tyvek bunny suit. They are cheap too :)

Planned obsolescence, have the same problem, found a set of cartridges at a local lumber yard so am set for one more airplane but after that will be forced to buy a new mask. Nothing is easy any more, everything is complicated.

I do have a Tyvek suit.  It covers a lot more than the suits the Playboy ladies wear.  Frankly, I don't see what benefit Tyvek bunny ears would be to painting a stunt plane.  I'd be afraid they'd knock dust loose from the ceiling.

I had a older mask and went to the local body shop supply to get replacement cartridges. He said he would have to order carrtidges and would be 65-70 bucks.  Instead he recommended a dispossable mask for less than $30.  Its good for 40 hours of use and has an expiration date of 01-2017, comes in re-sealable storage bag.  3M  product # 07192.   Told me that this is what most of his auto painters are using now.

Please keep in mind, that all cartridges,, whether on a disposable mask or a replacement cartridge are rated for a specific number of hours of exposure. That exposure starts when it is exposed to air, ,and runs its course regarless of it is filtering your incoming breath or not,, ( or outgoing breath too for that matter  LL~)

To prolong the life of the mask,, after using it, do not just put it on the bench,, put it in an air tight container. Once it has "filtered " the air inside the container,, the use of its filtering "time " stops until you expose it to air again.
If you just leave the thing in open air,, it continually filters all the air it sees( in other words its more like a contamination function with the filter media absorbing chemicals from the surrounding atmosphere even while just sitting there inert)

I got a 3M mask with 60923 cartridges.  I am going to the garage in a few minutes to spray Isocyanate Death Paint.  If I don't make it, those aren't the right cartridges.

Howard,,
its not the paint that is toxic, poisonous and evil,, its actually semi safe,, its the catalyst,, so I guess you could always spray your clear with out the catalyst? H^^ D>K

It might be kind of hard to keep the fuel from attacking it,, but at least the catalyst wont attack you,,  VD~

and NO FOLKS, I am not serious about spraying it without catalyst,, its a joke son,, its a joke
