Please keep in mind, that all cartridges,, whether on a disposable mask or a replacement cartridge are rated for a specific number of hours of exposure. That exposure starts when it is exposed to air, ,and runs its course regarless of it is filtering your incoming breath or not,, ( or outgoing breath too for that matter
)
To prolong the life of the mask,, after using it, do not just put it on the bench,, put it in an air tight container. Once it has "filtered " the air inside the container,, the use of its filtering "time " stops until you expose it to air again.
If you just leave the thing in open air,, it continually filters all the air it sees( in other words its more like a contamination function with the filter media absorbing chemicals from the surrounding atmosphere even while just sitting there inert)
