Removing Ultracote
« on: October 24, 2012, 06:46:18 PM »
Is there a good way to remove Ultracote and Rustoleum to refinish a plane?

Thanks,

James

James,
The Ultracoat can be heated with a heat gun (don't get it to hot, you will get a feel for how much). Wear a clove and move the heat gun along the edge you are lifting. For the Rustoleum you can use paint stripper, some old razor blades to scrape off paint and lots of paper towels. Wear disposable gloves to protect your skin from the stripper chemicals. Watch how hard you scrape the finish off, you want to get the color paint off and leave the rest if you can (less work later to reapply the substrate).

Best,     DennisT
