what is the best way to paint a 1/2 a plane so as to keep weight down? plane is a twin with a 341/2 inch wing, got to keep it lite its a scale job. would rustoleum be a good choice?

Rustoleum would work - just be careful of the dark colors like dark blue or black - thay have a tendency to never dry thoroughly.

Here's a baby Bipe Ringmaster I finished it with a few strips of coloured tissue and a black, fine tip Sharpie for panel lies.  Then the whole plane was given two coats of Diamond Varathane, sanding after the first coat with 300 grit.  If you want, you can use the water based Varathane as well.  Its lite as a feather and dead easy to do. H^^

It is absolutely fuel proof.  I have used Varathane to protect decals on larger ships, not cleaned them for far too long, and no penetration or lifting.  Besides....its my experience that a 1/2A ship never outlasts its finish! LOL

Yes it is.  Check other lumber yards or hardware stores.  It comes in pint tins and one that is about 1/2 pint even.  I always have a pint tin laying around for other woodworking projects I am forced to do by my daughters and wife.  They are quite mean that way! %^@ H^^
