Microfiber cloths as tac rags?
« on: July 21, 2009, 04:34:15 PM »
Any one know if microfiber cloths work as a tac rag?  :! They seem to pick up everything, but not sure about this application. Seems to me they should, but then I've been wrong before.

If it's a used one, you should probably wash it first. Give it a shot - What can it hurt?

I would be hesitant becuase they can pick up a static charge and transfer lint and other contaminants to the surface you are painting. Real tack rags are much less expensive and much more effective for the job. Why reinvent the wheel, use the microfiber cloths for polishing, use tack rags for tacking off before you paint

NO. Use the tack rags!

While the microfiber cloths are good at what they do, so too are the tack rags.
The tack rag has a resin stickiness that the microfiber cloths do not. Mark is right. Use the microfiber cloth but the last thing to touch the surface to be painted before the paint itself should be a tack rag.
