How many coats of clear

Hi all, finished brush painting new plane, four coats of Sig dope. My question is how many coats of clear should I apply over the color using a Preval spray unit. I know to thin it 50/50.  I only painted the fuselage and tail feathers, the wing is ultracote.

Some say it's fuel proof and others say they have had issues.

I my self quit trying to spray clear dope.   I usually brush on 8 coats.

Doc, I wasn't very clear on my first post. I brushed on 5 coats of clear followed by 4 coats of color. I now want to spray on final coats of clear to prevent the color from being brush dragged. All Sig.

This will depend on brand of dope and if you intend to wet sand and rub it out.  I've found Certified non- tautening clear has a lot more filler in it and doesn't take as much- but be careful or it will get heavy faster.  I have only an airbrush which I use for color.  Then I spray on two coats- has to be thinned about 70-80% to airbrush to lock it down.  Then I brush on two 50/50 coats,  thinned some with retarder.  After three weeks it's hard enough for a good sanding/polishing.  If I weren't going to rub it I'd just do one coat.  Two or three with other brands.  One coat Certified = two or three other brands,  especially Sig Lite Coat although it's a great product.  You'll just put more coats.
