Hope you smoothed that Super Fil before it set. Makes for a lot less sanding or using of metal rasps. The stuff makes for really strong joints too.

It's got a adjustable rudder...

Really nice work! You have patients and pat attention to detail.

So I guess you switched over to Superfil and no longer use Epoxy and balloons. Correct?

Charles, I still use epoxi and microballoons, only now I use the superfil over it to get a smoother surface and it sands much easier...

Looks nice Marcus, I've been watching from the start. Models are kind of like people, as they develop, they have to go through that awful patchy scabby blemished looking stage before they turn pretty.

My Yak-9 is in that cruddy teenage horror looking phase today, soon to turn into a thing of beauty almost overnight, I hope. I used microballoons for the first time and made it through the learning curve fairly well. But have had to use spackling to fine tune and blend the curves. I hope it won't crack later. After the 1000 grit treatment, I soaked the spackle with CA to harden it. I think I'll look into this Superfil next time. I learn a lot watching you guys build planes. Thanks for posting.

And I finished reading your CLW articles, great entertainment, I appreciate that too. I even got my picture in that issue.

Actually, i had a few soft spots, caused by bad lamination..
Thought it was better not to risk any possibilities of future problems, so i skinned the soft spots and did a few patches, no more problem.
An example of epóxi+ microballoons with superfil on top...
This build has been a learning experience for me... I just wish my life didn't get so crazy and unpredictable, so I could accomplish one schedule once in a while...

Hey life is unpredictable at times. That is what keeps us going. I do like your build of this plane and all the others. Haven't figured out the house computer so I can watch videos yet. So they wait til I get to the lap top in the shop.

A jar of alcohol setting close by will help smooth the filet material before it sets up. Amazed me how well the material stays in place. Used it to finish the gap in the profile Ringmaster and also amazed how much strength it added.

I see the CV overlaping on the fuselage.

My guess is, those areas are twice as thick.

Is this going to create an issue in finishing?

Marcus, you are going to be done finishing and flying before I am with RI. I too over lapped the CV when I tried it the first time. When I was done with the finish you could not see or feel where the over laps were compared to using fiber glass. Even Poly-span leaves a little ridge if not sanded right. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Like Doc said Charles, when you sand it, the overlapping vanishes... This is pretty good stuff...
Need to come up with a painting scheme... Just a blank yet...
But there's a lot of sanding to be done, and primer after that, and more sanding after that... I think I have time...
Well, back to the shop, after all,it's not gonna sand itself...

Hey Marcus, the late Rusty Brown told me that when sanding carbon fiber do not blow the dust off or even rub it off. Just put a couple more coats of clear on. He stated that it will fill the grain better. I know it took less dope to get it to the primer stage.

I see all the work I've done and then check a few pics from some NATs ships and think to myself: "20 points is not enough...."

I'll post a few pics when I have it primed... So far, so good... Veil is the best thing on Earth!!

Do you really think CV is the best thing on earth? You have used silk correct?

Does it lay better? Fill with less coats?

I don't think I have enough experience with it to compare one with he other.
I never really cared about my paintjobs, only recently.
What it seems to me is it is easy to lay down, fills with 2/3 coats of 50/50 dope and sands beautifully...
It's expensive though...
I intend to stick with it for my stunters...
You should give it a try....

Yes the tedious part of finishing. I was told you sand/rub with 400 grit until you can almost see thru the primer using a good sanding block. Use a good light to see the surface as you go. You are going to be flying before I get my RI ready.
