Finishing the Challenger .15
« on: January 19, 2012, 09:04:30 PM »
Howdy folks, welcome to the "Aeroworks" :##

I'm in the final finishing and trim stages on the Challenger .15 project. This is a really fun .15 size model designed by Keith Sandberg. Laser cut rib sets and plans are available from Walter Umland. He can be found in the Vendor section here on the forum, or here:      http://www.builtrightflyright.com/

For all the grubby details on this build up to this point, check here:       http://stunthanger.com/smf/index.php?topic=21117.0

As far as design, I'm working toward the white/orange Navy trainer scheme with this one. I'm not copying anything specifically, I'm just fudging it until it looks about right.
Last night I sprayed the first of the orange trim, Brodak Cruiser Orange. I really wanted to leave the elevator white like the rudder (it would be more accurate to the real-deal) but laziness outweighed desire. ;D

I'm officially stuck at this point until I recieve some insignia graphics in the mail so that I can confidently figure spacing and positions etc. They'll be showing up any day now and I'll be back at it...

HA, that's a funny coincidence! I'm going to the new movie tomorrow night with some of the CAF "Redtail" guys and Joe Gomer, one of the Redtails himself.

Thanks Doc. How is the P-47 coming anyway?

I started the canopy area on the Challenger tonite, shooting some black. Next will be adding the "glass"...

...just finished installing the "glass". I'm claiming a little Powellesque influence with the outlines. ;D

Once it dries completely I've just got a few tape edges to knock off with some sandpaper and then the painting is complete. Everything else will be vinyl and then finally shoot the clear...

Looks good. I like the effect on the canopy. I may have to steal that.

By using the black on top of the fuse I stole the look from the U.S. Navy, T-2 "Buckeye" to be exact.

Well I got all the markings put on tonite so now it's ready for clear. Big thanks to Emily at Control Line Central for the U.S. "Star and Bar" insignias. H^^

That's looking great.   I like it and may try to duplicate it.  No stealing or borrowing,  I just confiscate. H^^
