Finish on Skyray
« on: February 27, 2024, 01:09:46 AM »
Just wanted to let you know how I finished the wood/fuselage on my Skyray 35.
Three coats of wood brushing lacquer, light sanding after each coat.
One coat of black Rustoleum enamel.
That's it.
I will let you know how it stands up to fuel.
Just glad to be here

Dave,
The trick with Rustoleum is to let it cure out at least two weeks before fuel exposure. This seems to be the time it takes to develop fuel resistance.

Hi David, how long after the last coat of lacquer did you wait until you sprayed the Rustoleum?

I brushed the Rustoleum three days after lacquer.

Nothing fancy.  Just a beginner plane.  Comes in at 28 ounces.

Just glad to be here

Looks great David. Any plan for some canopy color?  :)

I also have a relatively new Skyray with OS 25LA. I did make a few build changes on mine based on some of Brett Buck's suggestions. It flies really well. I am not able as yet to do the full pattern yet, but a buddy of mine did the full pattern with it.

The canopy stickers from the kit.
