Does anyone know if water slide decals put on monokote then coated with Z-Poxy finishing resin would work?

I can't comment on Z-Poxy but I have used them with Rustoleum clear over Monokote.  FYI - I am electric.

I was just using Z-Poxy finishing resin this evening. If nothing else, it is not very clear.  :'(

John,
I have had decent luck using Krylon Cover Maxx clear over the decals while still on the paper.  Normally a couple of coats does the job.  No issues with the decal sliding off the paper and onto the airplane and the decal is pretty fuel and cleaner resistant thus far.

Rustoleum clear is not fuel proof as I understand it while their colors are.

Good luck.

will become brown and look pretty ugly in no time
use clear coat and will be great, i clear coat all of my monokote coverings with no issues
the PAMPA logo on this picture is water slide, remaining colors are painted over red translucent monokote

John,

Just to clarify Rustoleum colors is not fuel proof, but it is fuel resistive. The "Stops Rust" seems to stand up better than their "2X". You must always wipe raw fuel off to be safe. I have no experience with their clear, I'm sure it follows suit. Once the Rustoleum has cured you can spray a two part auto clear coat or KBS Diamond single stage over the finish including the slide off or vinyl decals. Watch your added weight! I have no experience with Krylon finishes.

Steve,
Thank you for the insight.  I have only painted one with Rustoleum so do not have much experience.  Seems that Allen Brickhaus was a fan of it (or perhaps another canned spray) to get things in the air quickly.  Do not know if he clear coated after the color or not though.

I have had no issue with Rustoleum clear over monokote to protect decals.  I have heard that it is a different formula from the colors and not as fuel proof.

Fred,
For going over the MonoKote did you need to use any adhesion improver for plastic?

Best,   DennisT
