Has anyone found a way to apply and fill carbon fiber veil over solid balsa surfaces without using dope?

Not me as I did one ship in carbon and could see no advantage to it other than it was expensive at the time.   Now it is Poly-Fiber and dope.

I put enough clear dope on the wood until it starts to get a shine to it.  Sanding between every other coat.  Then thin the dope to where it is like water and brush it over the Poly-Span.  On compound curves you may need to use an iron to stretch it s bit.  If you have a wrinkle some time the iron will shrink it, other wise you have to sand it out.   Then it's more dope.
