Almost there

This is going to be a buff as I fly ordeal. I didn't put on much clear so it left it very peeley. The easy parts. like wings and stab sanded pretty easy. the fuse is a little more intense. It has to be hand buffed and its difficult to get at. SO I am just going to glue the flaps and ele on and fly. If it flies good I am sure to get excited in detailing the finish. I will not shoot more clear on it. Its all about sand it off now and buff.

Time to start on a back up plane, there might be enough time to finish a second one.

I'm guessing the back up model is that SV11...

Is it? ;D

It must be a great feeling to know that you aren't going to spray oil all over it.  The oil DOES make bug removal easier, though.  Beautiful airplane!!

Agreed.  There is something about simple schemes.  Maybe it's because real airplanes tend to have simple schemes.

Not sure whats gone wrong

I have spent all day trying to get the outboard flap back to normal. I sprayed the last clear on the last part and it fish eyed so bad it was like craters. Well urethane over dope works. Dope over fresh urethane does not. Attacked it. SO sand it back down to bare wood and build it back up. I have it painted grey again and I am not going to put the Stunt Hangar logo back on it. I am a little gun shy about the clear again. The clear I use is Sherwin Williams Select clear. The clear I had is about 4 years old. I had bought new hardener. I normally buy a new quart every paint job and I will do it in the future. This time I was cheap and tried to use the old stuff. I don't think it was wise. I am thinking this is why I am having so many issues with this paint job. Lesson learned.

I am ready to abandon this pain job.Not my best finish but its still presentable.

Keep moving forward Spark. I know it sucks but I always have some issue with my planes. I had a rub through on a high spot in the wing of the Matrix. It was created by a hard spot near the take apart hardware that never did sand out. When I went back to fix it (it was in the black part with the code) it took me at least three tries. I got it close the first time but when I sprayed clear it went to S#*t. I had to do it two more times to make it look decent and I can still see the spot today. Good thing the appearance judges didn't see it...

I may have to refinish the top of one of my elevators on the Cutlass too. I had a few specs of paint that were in the dark green and when I wet sanded it went all the way back to the base white. I tried to put a drop of paint on each one of the spots and spray clear again. When I wet sanded again the spots came back so I will probably have to redo the top of that elevator. It sucks!

This is why when asked about my P-47 appearance, they will be told it is my version of  well used P-47 that was never restored.
