Jim,
This post could be a lifesaver for me. I tried for a quick, durable, dope-less finish (practice for the next C/L build) and put a LOT of time into finishing and painting the RC Herr Aquastar in the photo. I used thin cyano to fill the grain and seal the wood, applying it and quickly toweling it off, just like resin. No waiting for things to cure before sanding. Some areas were covered in silkspan and others were left bare; no difference in the ready-for-paint surfaces. Paint was Petit Easypoxy marine paint. After all that, it's now a mobile hanging from my shop ceiling.
My dilemma is the molded plastic windscreen and windows. The colors are Testors plastic model enamel and right under the engine. It will surely get doused with raw fuel. Converting to electric would require a complete redesign and rebuild.
So, will a layer of 2K save the day? Weight isn't critical here and I've got scrap painted pieces to try it out on. Hope it works, float flying season is almost here.
