Yea, once. Minwax doesn't fill very well.

Minwax + talc seems to make an OK sealer, if you're not too enthusiastic with the talc (too much and you get adhesion problems).

Given my experience with Minwax over silkspan I'd use it again for a not-too-critical finish, but if I wanted to be serious about things I'd use dope.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

Great article just copying so I can find it later. One thing it doesn't mention, I put 2 coats of nitrate dope thinned 50/50 on the bare wood before water based polycrylic and you'll get less swelling in the grain.

You're right on there...

Water based worked for me.  Trying now to finish it up. ::)

Thought somebody might be going nuts looking for .02 CF veil, when there is no such thing. It's actually .2 oz, .3 oz, or .5 oz/sq. yard. I have .3 and .5 oz.  D>K Steve

I wouldn't recommend polycrylic and silkspan over open bays.  It cures to a very hard, brittle finish leading to many punctures.

Hi Phil,

I put on two coats of thinned nitrate on the bare wood, then used the polycrylic to attached the carbon veil, then used more dope over the polycrylic to attach the POLY SPAN on wings and tail areas--no silkspan used or PC over covering, just used the Minwax polycrylic to attach the carbon veil to solid balsa parts.  then used regular butyrate dope on top coats...

It seemed to work well for me. I'd use it again.  D>K
