I (finally!) got the Hellcat 502 finished and test flown. Lots of fun. It flew right off the board nicely and demanded the removal of the heavier hub to shift the CG back just a little. Also, a little handle adjustment to get the neutral feeling good.
This is the first Hellcat I've built and has the trim scheme my dad flew off the carrier Hornet. It is a great tribute to my dad.
Specs: 502 squares, 36 ounces (RTF), Tempest 2814-850kv motor, Ovonics 2200/4S battery, CC 35 amp ESC, Hubin FM-9 timer, APC 11-5.5 E prop (not shown). BTW, this 2200 battery weighs about 6.33 ounces and adds to creating a very efficient power package (11.5 ounces) comparable to a Fox 35 setup. Consider that it is swinging an 11" prop. The traction on the corners is impressive. I consider that this is one of the most efficient electric packages for anything from an Oriental on down. I think we have hit the sweet spot for this size package.
My plan is to fly the Hellkitty at the NW Regionals. Looking forward to seeing all my buddies there.
