Woo Hoo!!!!!!!!
« on: May 28, 2007, 01:43:33 PM »
I got to fly again today!!!!  Man this is getting contagious! **)

Granted,  have not taken out a "good plane" yet, but I am having no trouble (knock on wood) with my knee!

Today we took my Buddy's Tomahawk again, and I took my engine test mule.  I am running a Leo 37 I got from Joe Just, and it was set up by Scott Riese.  It is running great, but a bit of a gas hog.  A *little* over 5 min on 4 oz., but I *might* could go in on the needle a touch more.  Great 4-2 and using a 10 1/2 X 4 1/2 APC on 5% Sig Champion.  The test mule is an older RD-1 that's a bit porky.  Engine needs some more time on it, but it has a pretty outstanding run right now.

Summer vacatrion means buring fuel this year (I sure hope!!).

Leonardo Garofali, son of Juares Garofali who was a co-founder of Super Tigre. I have a Leo .25, so far un-run. Great-looking engines, and obviously display their Super Tigre heritage.

Not sure who stateside handles them.  Just engines has sold them for a while.  Here is a report.  http://www.justengines.unseen.org/Leo37.htm

Joe Just (Big Country Joe) handles the Leo engines, or at least *did*.

This thing has been a one flip start ever since I put it on the plane.  Super friendly, very good usuable power.  Not sure what Scott Riese did other than install a venturi and NVA and fit it.  Joe or Scott can give that info.  I got the last two in a special from Joe that he had at the time.  I believe that they were only marketed as R/C.  It seems VERY similar, running wise, to the Magnum square head 36 XLII.  I have not tried to run it in a wet 2, but I will.  It's just running real good the way I have it set up right now, so I haven't changed it around.  Is it an Aero Tiger 36? No way, but it is a very good little stunt engine and if you cannot justify buying a AT 36 right now, I would recommend it for a .35-.40 traditional size plane.

I thought Leo Engines were Taiwanese. I have a Leo 15 and read that the guy who owns Leo Engines is the nephew of the guy who owns Thunder Tiger.  see this link http://www.justengines.unseen.org/Leo.htm and http://www.leoengines.com/index.htm

Cheers

Hi Warren,

They probably are made in Taiwan.  But the nephew must live in England. ?? ??
I don't know the whole story on them............

A "Custom Made" Leo 75? (Mehl that is.) Now this is a profound development. Is this a "Shelf Queen" or can it be used. Bet it cost a "Bundle" during the R&D stages, as a matter of fact I bet it costs a "Bundle" to maintain now? Let me know when they decide to make more of these, I bet it would look good between two "Red Headed Foxes" I has left.
