Winter get-together. Indiana. pics.
« on: February 02, 2008, 05:23:56 PM »
We had 7 show up today, and we looked the 2 new ships and the 5 under constrution ships over. Two Ares, ( one by Mike Condon and the other is being built by Wesley Dick) one Caprice,( mine) one Davis special, (Roger Wildman) one Ephesian, ( Will Hinton) and Mike McHenry's new creation ,Avenger, and a new design by Mike Condon. Mike did not have a name for it yet. We put all of them on the scales too, all were right in line at a good weight. Oh, and the food was good too. Enjoy the pictures.

Blessings

GREAT PIX!

The Caprice looks great, and the red Ares paint scheme looks "just right" - like it came out of a time machine.  Wes's Ares looks too pretty to cover - like all I-beams do.  Seeing it in the company of all the other birds Will's boomer really looks big.

Looks like the midwest is gonna be in for some serious head-knockin this summer - if it ever stops snowing, and if the wind ever slows down!

When I looked closely at all the meticulous craftsmanship there I wanted to crawl off in the corner!  These guys are, each and every one, true artists with Balsa!!!  The sight of these ships in the bare bones makes it seem almost bad to have to cover up the workmanship with paint!  (With mine the sooner they are covered the better!)
Denny, the "big E" is 715 squares.  It weighed 37.1 oz as seen here!

Great pictures and a lot of craftsmen there.  If I could build and finish half as good as Will I would be in seventh heaven.  DOC Holliday

Allen,

I noticed something on the plane with Stablets.  He has them higher on the top side than on the bottom side.  If this is the case then the elevator will be more powerful on he inside turns than on the outside turns.  When the elevator is deflected up it is still within the stablet and getting the full wing fence effect.  When the elevator is deflected down and it will possibly go past the stablet and the air will "spill" off and the effect is greatly reduced.  I encourage that gentleman to take a close look and make sure they are even distance above and below the stab.  I have some work with these things and they need to be even to create an even effect.

looks like you all had great time.  That red Ares looks AWESOME!

Doug, thanks for the information.  The plan is for them to be centered. They were just tacked on for show and tell. I'm looking forward to trying them on the stab to see if I feel a noticeable difference.  I figure if the Bear uses them, there must be a reason.

Take care,
Mike
