Windy in Memphis
« on: December 03, 2007, 06:16:42 AM »
Yesterday was about the worst day we have had around here in a long time.  Unseasonably warm, very windy (maybe not for Oklahoma or Kansas) and rain.  I drive over to my buddy Lou's and we commenced building two Ringmaster wings while watching his collection of old Johnny Quest video's.  For lunch Lou cooked up some homemade buttermilk cornbread and some greens.   Almost like being a kid again except when I was a kid I thought of greens a lawn clippings.

Funny thing is, when I was a kid I would not build a Ringmaster.  I always wanted a complex better flying plane.  Now I think the Ringmaster is one of my favorite planes to fly.  Simple, Brodak 25, 58' line, go fly :D

Looks good.  You should of video taped your building session so that amateurs like me can see how the pros do it.  I hope there was some meat to go with the greens.  I like mustards and prefer collards and turnips to have mustard mixed in.

Willie,

My Adjust-a-jig is all set up for an RSM Ringmaster wing.  Get an RSM Ringmaster Lite from SS Hobbies and bring it over.  Can have the wing jigged up in no time.

Zuriel,

I think the day you have described is really the essence of CL flying.  An enjoyable day spent with a friend building a plane and sharing memories of the past and hopes for the future. Not to mention a great lunch!

Perhaps we sometimes make things too complex or complicated and override the "fun" part of an endeavor. High performance stunt ships are fine but the cost, skills required and time involved in building them is formidable.  A Ringmaster may not be the plane for all out competition but will provide lots of flying fun and a challenge in a different way.  If you can fly a full stunt pattern with a Ringmaster, that's quite an accomplishment in itself!  If not, who cares? I can't speak for others but, realistically, I know I'll never be a serious competitor.  I don't have the time, money, ability or desire to do so.  I enjoy building and flying planes that are within my means. The time I spend with friends flying and building is invaluable to me.

Zuriel,
I am glad you will have another new RM. I just hope I get to see you fly it some day.

Ryan and I will be at the park this Saturday afternoon if anyone wants to come hang out. I just hope it's not windy.

I have heard that, but I am not sure what that really means.  Is he no longer going to compete in contests?  No more videos?  etc., etc., ?? ?? ??

HI Gary,

I do know that Windy was involved with a gentleman who has passed on (Mr. K........???) but that was a while back.  I heard of the *retirement* but I have never understood what the retirement is *from*! ;D  He was already *retired* in the sense of his day job with Ford, or whoever it was.......

I am still trying to find out what the retirement consists of.  Someone mentioned a recent contest as *being his last*.  ???
