Windy in Memphis again.....
« on: December 08, 2007, 03:54:56 PM »
But is did not stop the fun!

Well today Ryan and I got out with a few of our friends. I was a little late getting to the field and when I got there to my surprise I only knew two faces. I quickly made the rounds and made some new friends. These were mostly combat flyers and racers but one guy had a U-Key.
Any way it was a little windy again today, but planes were flown anyway. Ryan is so ready to learn more. He is doing reverse wing overs. And he also did a vertical eight. I wish I could teach him, but he is so beyond me now. He also put up some flights with his Bi-Slob. Did a touch and go, or what ever you call it when the Slob hovers to the ground, bounces over on the wheels and takes off again. We also had problems starting Fox engines so Kreth let us borrow his “Tool Time” manly man glow starter. He was using it to bench run a engine and it caught his hand on fire. Well same thing happened when we used it to start the Bi-Slob. It caught the grass on fire, and I did not notice it but it also burnt the bottom of the Bi-Slob. (see picture of the burnt bottom)
I am getting better with the TwistStang, or at least I am flying without a fear of hitting the ground. Fly without Fear some one said. It was a little too windy for the ShoeString so it sat on the flite line.
I did not have my camera with me this time but did snap a few with my phone.
Here is the burnt Slob, Slob landing, and I did snap a picture of Marcos, a new flying buddy. Everyone else got away before I could get a mug shot.

(Man what started out with just me and Ryan with a RTF Cox at the school parking lot a few years ago, things sure has changed. Because of the internet and message boards we have found there is still a larger number of C/L flyers in the Memphis area.)

Thanks everyone for showing up!!! We had a blast. I guess old man winter will be here soon and the cold weather will put us all on the building table. Maybe I will get this Cardinal done before the spring thaw.

Paul,

Doesn't Jim Lynch live near Memphis?  He would be an excellent teacher coach for Ryan if you could interest him?

Yes I am building, but it is going soooo slow.

And yes Jim Lynch lives in Memphis, but he is very busy in his shop getting ready for next year.

Merry Christmas

Chris,
It is a Cardinal with a foam wing. All scratch built from plans.
I am not going to try and make it look too good because it is going to be a plane that I hope will help me learn the pattern. Ironbomb gave me the idea. He said this was how he learned the pattern with out building a lot of planes. The foam wing will take a beating, and I will just have to keep gluing the fuse together.

Chris,
How deep is the snow and how it the Talon coming???

We have a pile of snow on the ground with an ice storm comming tonight.
I have not yet started another Talon, but will soon.  For now I'm just cleaning some odds and ends off the bench (hunny-do stuff).  mw~
By spring I should have a shiny new Talon ready to go.
