My Newly Repaired 59 Thunderbird II
« on: February 07, 2019, 05:45:36 PM »
Hi Folks,Attached are some pics of my 1959 Palmer Thunderbird II. The plane was given to me in a state of disrepair having the entire tail knocked off and the canopy torn up. I made all of the repairs and tried to match the dope as best as I could. Whoever originally built it was a fine craftsman. The plane was very light weight. The finished ready to fly weight is 45ounces with a regular muffler. Considering the 56" wingspan 45oz is great! It's powered by a very nice running Tower 40 with 4 1/2 oz uniflow tank on muffler pressure. Prop is a Zoar 11x4. I'll start flying it on 61' .015 lines eyelet to eyelet. Waiting for a nice day to test fly her. Cheers,PhillySkip

Very nice Skip. All of the Thunderbird variations are pretty designs, and it should make you a great flyer. Nice Job.

Jim I had one a few years back and it was a fine flyer. Unfortunately I destroyed it when I ran out of fuel directly overhead at the intersection of the overhead 8. I lost line tension and she came down right in the middle of the circle.I hope to have this one a little longer than the last one!.....Skip

Nice job Skip.  Always like the T Bird.  Had one when I was a kid.

The classic T-Bird is always a rewarding build experience, and a good flyer.  Mi second T-Bird has the upright engine.
90 years, but still going (mostly)
