Who sees posts?
« on: October 17, 2024, 11:24:19 AM »
Recently I have noticed a definite drop in replies to posts.  I was going to ask if there was a generic reason when I discovered something that may need explaining.  When I logged in today it showed 2 unread new posts overall and none on threads I have commented on.  So, in order to make a post I went to the Open forum and to my amazement there were 8 New Posts to of which I remember posting on.  I closed the browser and logged back in.  Same result.  What makes a post visible to others?

Could be those two hurricanes knocked out some n line capabilities.  Or just the immediate cold spell..

Haven't noticed any change here. At least, not recently. During the NATS there weren't many posts because some of the frequent posters were busy there.

Look into your settings. I couldn't say what my settings are, but new posts are always at the top with a little orange flag, with all other posts below in sequence of last reply. Seems logical to me, but maybe not to others?  n~ Steve

Well the old DOC usually checks in everyday and proceed to look at the unread post section.   Some days there are quite a few and some not so many.  It runs different during the week and on week ends I don't expect too many post.  not its time to get back to the shop and start sorting things. D>K

John, the next time you check in, before you open any threads, count the threads in the "Unread Posts Since Last Visit" section then go to the "Open Forum" and count the new posts.  I just logged in and had 4 since last visit and there were 11 in the Open Forum.

Ken

ps - just for grins did you see my last post yesterday on my Endgame IV on the building forum?  If you did great, I am not soliciting a response but if you didn't then I need to figure out what I am doing wrong.

Well I found part of it.  It doesn't show all new posts unless you click on another button at the bottom of the list.  Then it shows all of them.  Now the search to find out how it decides which ones to show.

Well for me there are a lot of posts that come up that I don't look at every time I get on here.  Once I look at what I want I check the mark read posts.   I too used to go through the catagories but that takes time. D>K

Today had 12 posts in unread section,  only 8 in the open part. S?P

Hello Ken Culbertson
Show unread posts since last visit.
Show new replies to your posts.

This is what I see when I log in.  The first link shows all unread (by me) postings from ALL forums.  The second link shows unread postings from only those threads that I have posted on before.

Is this not what everybody sees?

Ken, I've NEVER clicked on either of those two links until just now, and probably will just keep scanning for the orange flags as usual. Whatever you do is ok with me!  H^^ Steve
