So, anyone planning to attend this weekend? Should be fun.

Western Canada Stunt Championships, Rice Mill Road Park, Richmlond, B.C.
Saturday: Old-Time Stunt, Classic Stunt, Profile Stunt, barbecue at the Coxes'.
Sunday: Four classes of Precision Aerobatics.

I'm going (early Friday AM), just so I can FLY FREE, without having the FFAA jump on my chit for not registering. Gotta find a launch rpm for whatever prop(s) I can find in my stuff. Haven't flown yet this year. The Ministry of Transport may jump on me for not bringing any Sleeman's to the BBQ, but I'll get some Friday PM.

Damn, it's hot here. I hope it's cooler way up yonder.

I hope Bruce Perry will show up.

That would be the only way a wall ever got built up there.

When the wall is built in Texas and AZ the "New undocumented immigrants will have to take a boat up the west coast to enter from the North! Probably a lot of them will just decide to stay there!

If I was younger I might go there! I really like Ontario! And, there's fantastic hunting in Western Canada! Too old now!

You would be SHOCKED at what is expected when you cross the border by boat, either in saltwater through the "inside passage" (through San Juan Islands) or a trans-border lake, such as Osoyoos (N. from Wenatchee, WA). They have a phone booth at the boat launch/landing, and expect boaters to call and report that they have landed, and report the names of all persons on the boat. Along some civilized but rural parts of the US/CN border, there is no fence, but a ditch that (I've been told) most any 4x4 could traverse without much difficulty...roads on both sides. Yes, there may be some surveillance cameras. But still, can you say "WTF?"

As a rule, getting into Canada isn't the problem. It's coming back. I picked up an enhanced DL so we'll see if that is sufficient.

Not leaving until tomorrow morning. Blast in, get a couple of practice flights, fly in the contest Sunday then blast out. A night at home then off to Idaho for a week. Fun, fun, fun.

Recommendation - Stay away from the Holiday Inn Express near Rice Mill.

dude bring a plane and batteries and stop through pullman town on your way to Idaho, we can fly ,
of course you will stand the risk of having your mind altered since this is GOds ( COugar) country

Not happening. I could become corrupted and start thinking the Cougars are OK. Bad, bad, bad. Go Huskies!!!

And besides, I suspect the plane will become Canadianized. Then I might have to fly clockwise.

thats ok, variable rotation is allowed at my flying site,, and the COugar affect is strong enough that your bad dawg huskie influence wont corrupt me

Wind 10-15, gusting 25. Too windy to fly stunt today. Forecast for tomorrow is for light winds. We will try to fit tomorrow the events that were not flown today. Fingers crossed that the forecast is correct!

samed conditions here Chris, no flying today, so instead I am taking Jackson ( the 2 1/2 year old grandson) to the monster trucks in Spokane today

I finally made it to Richmond, BC. Only took about 8.5 hours. Two wreaks and bumper to bumper all the way from the Edmonds ferry to Burlington then on and off heavy traffic all the way to the border. But I'm here. When I got to the field, everyone was gone. The wind was blowing at about 12kph (hey, I'm in Canada). Could easily have flown. That was about 4:30pm. But the spouse and I decided to just go to dinner and hang out. Be out bright and early tomorrow.

Well, fun day. Hopefully I can post a couple of frame grabs. Wifey took some video with her GoPro. The wind was interesting. Not too bad but moving around with thermals. And expert didn't fly until late in the day, but pretty fun.

Thanks Randy, it was fun, but it sure turned into a long/tiring day. Getting blown out on Saturday, we felt, based on number of entries, we could get both Saturday and Sunday events squeezed into the one day.

The day started off with light winds, which even turned into minimal/no wind, followed later in the day by the odd thermal floating through. With the early overcast sky, conditions were very manageable, but when the sun came out later in the day, energy started to get sucked out of many of us. Because we ran Saturday's event first, many had a bit of a wait before PA classes were flown. Thanks for hanging in there everyone. I think overall it was the right decision, but I felt bad for resulting long day. If it happens again, we may need to re-think how to best handle the situation.

As usual, Joan went above and beyond the call of duty on Saturday (and Sunday) with the BBQ preparation, which was spectacular. The ribs were amazing. She also made up a batch of Dan Rutherford's recipe for Walla Walla sweet onions, that were terrific (I'm munching on some as I type). Not only that, but my son James and wife Lorraine were a great help to Joan in the kitchen, and son Stephen got off work early to do the actual BBQ'ing. Couldn't have done it without them.

Randy, I'll give you my cell phone number next time we see each other, so that you can call us when you arrive in town. You don't want to miss the Saturday evening event again!

I saw Randy at the border crossing Sunday night, back in the 2-lane area, and went by him. Later, about 10 cars from my intended border guard kiosk, I again saw Randy's vehicle just about ready to pull into his border guard kiosk. I'm wondering how he knew which line to get into...but I always get into the shortest line at the supermarket...just before it stops moving because somebody picked up something that doesn't have a bar code or their EBT card is empty. The sign said 60 minute wait for the Peace Arch crossing, but I'm guessing it was more like 80 or 90 minutes. Did Randy check?

Usually, when the border guard asks why I was up there, I tell them I was flying in a model aeroplane competition, and they ask if I won. I show them my trophy, which was on the passenger's seat. "Nice!" is the usual reply. Sometimes, they ask how come I didn't win 1st. "The Canadian Judges are prejudiced" is my reply, which gives them a giggle. Anyhow, I got across about 7:30pm and hit the driveway at about 9:30pm. Traffic was smooth sailing after the border, usually at the speed limit +/-. I went by Leidle's exit at 70 (60 zone)...toll lanes were "open to all".

I have talent, Steve. Just know which lane to get in. I saw you in the two lane area, not after that. I rolled in about 10pm but I had to take the Edmonds ferry. Hit it just right for the 9pm ferry, too. Rolled right one. The traffic was much better going home that getting up there. But it was sure fun. All you northwest toads that didn't come missed a great contest.

It was a very nice drive up on Friday...I hit the streets at 4:34 am. Stopped in Ferndale to top up the tank (about 7.5 gallons), and didn't add petrol the rest of the trip. Got home with the truck showing 1/4 tank.

When I arrived at the border crossing, they had two kiosks open, and neither had a lineup. I just pulled right up and got through without a hitch. If you didn't have good traffic on the way up, you didn't leave home early enough.
