Looking at the SH map, it looks like Ron Hook is west of Phoenix. He belongs to Central Controline club. Maybe he can hook you up with some locals to get you going. If you go to the AMA website, you can use the club locator and get hooked up that way also...Sometimes you just have to go it alone. I've done it and had my wife pitting for me for years. Its alot more fun with other fliers though, I'll agree!Good luck and have fun regardless!

Hi Mark:
I am not in your area, but I am like you just getting back to c/l. I found several web sites very helpful. Obviously you are here, so you also know about Brodak Mfg. Co. www.brodak.com.  He has a very good catalog with good information both basic and advanced, plus lots of good stuff to buy. Also, I kind of like Aeromanics   www.aeromanics.com. They have good basic information and lots of good web links. Then as previously suggested the AMA web site www.modelaircraft.org.
The later has site links to many local clubs.
Once away from it, now back, I won't leave again! It's fun and challenging. And the grandkids are having a blast!

ARF's - This a debate. But if you are in a hurry to get back on the handle you can not beat them. You will be flying quick, fast, and in a hurry.
If you will not be crashing, get an ARF Flite Streak, with a OS LA 25. Use everything right out of the box, except change the bell crank and lead outs.
Get some fuel and you are up and flying this weekend.

The ARF Streak is  a good place to start!!  Minimal stress to get it flyable and if it breaks repair or replace without much heartache from building a serious project.
Several good people in the Phoenix area and also the Tucson crowd have a really nice place to fly.  Very active group.
Please come to VSC!!
Enjoy!!  Welcome back!!   ;D ;D ;D

What is VSC you ask  ;D ;D ;D   Just about the biggest party with model airplanes that you can imagine!!  Ain't that so, Uncle Mikey   ;)

The Vintage Stunt Championships is a large gathering of some of the nicest people flying models that you can imagine.  It is a sanctioned sontest for Old Time Stunt and Classic plus spark ignition OTS for select masochists.   Held towards the end of March in Tucson at Christopher Columbus park. This spring there were upwards of a hundred or more contestants there for the fun...   Mike Keville (the one somewhat irresponsible for the gathering)  started this event to get some of the legends of CL Stunt back into the limelight so us lesser mortals could meet and fly with them.   So, we get together, a few practice a lot, most sit around and talk (lie  ;D )  about how good we usta was...
Actually, a lot of really nice planes and great people.   Enter (pre-enter is necessary), bring a plane and join the fun.  And really, believe me, the skill level of the pilot is not considered in the lets have a really good time equation.
Uncle Mikey (aka Mike Keville) can fill in more details
See you there   ;D

We are in pretty much the same boat except it has been 35 years for me. Imagine trying to find other flyers in rural Kansas. I am building a Flite Streak and I have a OS 25 that I picked up somewhere in the last 35 years, but I don't have a clue where. It must have been cheap or I wouldnt have bought it. It is a RC engine but I plan to tie it open and see if I can still spin around with out getting dizzy and falling down. I dont think I want to try flying half of the flight inverted to unwind.

Pay a visit to my Master C/L Link Site. I've got a good start on listing every C/L site on the web.
