Vintage Stunt trophy renamed to honor Don McClave
The annual Vintage Stunt trophy, awarded in the Pacific Northwest each year to the top-placing flier in combined Northwest Old-Time Stunt and Classic Stunt standings, was conceived about 12 years ago by Northwest Stunt icon Don McClave. Don sponsored the trophy for the first nine years, and always "sandbagged" his own participation to make sure someone else won the trophy. Don was an enthusiastic competitor in both OTS and Classic, and was a mentor to many Precision Aerobatics fliers over many years. Don died earlier this year.
The Vintage Stunt Trophy, now sponsored by Flying Lines, is being renamed the Don McClave Vintage Stunt Trophy beginning with the 2016 award.
With two stunt contests remaining on the schedule, the race for the trophy is far from settled, with five competitors still in the running. Performances at the R.F. Stevenson Memorial Raider Roundup and the Fall Follies will determine the winner of this coveted award.
