Tornado in St. Louis

How did our stunt friends fair in the tornado and bad weather there? Looks like the airport got hit pretty hard. Hope none of you had any damage.

Glad to hear that Robert. Stunthanger is the first place I went on the puter this morning to see if it was still there. Hope others check in soon so we won't worry about them.

At least the report I read last night was there were no fatalities.   Pictures show a lot of trees down as well as power lines.  Also a lot of roof damage.  I too hope none of our model flying friends are hurt in anyway. H^^

     I live a mile or so due north of the Tower at Lambert Field and came through unscathed. Lots of wind, rain and lightning. The local news channels were all on all evening broadcasting warnings and showing radar and that helped with the injury and loss of life issues. On Doppler Radar, you could actually see the funnel and debris ball and it moved along St.Charles and St. Louis County, the first time I could ever pick out that kind of detail on a TV screen. They could see the funnel from the tower as it moved in. It wasn't on the ground for very long , just short hops, or it could have been much worse. I haven't heard of any reports of ANY serious injury and that is amazing. I still couldn't get near the main terminal last night, need to check on Chris McMillin's airport car and crash pad located across the highway from the terminal. Gonna try again today.
  More rain and storms predicted daily right up through Wednesday! Yuck! n~ :P

Oh Man Dan! Great news from you. Glad you came through with no damage. It sure was close enough to be alarmed. Thats for sure. Hopefully this stuff will move out soon so we can all get in some flying. We have had a lot of wind and rain in Ks. this spring, so not to much flying going on. Thanks again for the good report.

I have friends in the Kirkwood,Mo. area and they reported no real damage, hail and heavy rain. Send some of this weather down to southeast Texas (no tornado's), to take some pressure off the middle of the country, we are drying up down here. H^^ Ron.

Ugh!!!
The wife and I were driving back to Indianapolis from visiting our two Great Grandsons, ages 3 years and 17 months, out in Kansas.  Stopped at a motel in O'Fallon, MO Friday night.  The desk clerk called about 7:10 pm and recommended we get in the bath room as a tornado is headed right at us and should arrive in 3 minutes!!!

It lifted over O'Fallon and touched down at Lambert Field.

Saturday morning they played back an interview with a teenage boy that was on a plane ready to fly to Chicago.  He said he flies often so air turbulence does not bother him but when the airplane feels like it is in turbulence setting on the tarmack is a different story.  The airplane moved sideways 20 feet away from the jetway.

I live a mile or so South of the tower at Lambert and also suffered no damage.  Looks like it passed right between McEntee and me!

Our problem now is Buder Park is flooded and we cannot fly there.  Looks like it will be closed until sometime next week - May 5th or so.  Hope the sealant on the square pad was cured enough before the flood waters came!

That tornado went through Las Cruces a couple of days ago - it was a straight wind here, which howled all night.
The last time I was visiting the St. Louis Zoo (about 40 years ago), there was a tornado forming as well, which also
hit just after we left.

And when I lived in Jerseyville, Illinois (just across the river, not far from Alton) as a 10-year old boy I remember
visiting cousins in St. Louis and seeing the aftermath of a tornado - straw thrown through fence posts, yet no real visible
damage only a few blocks away.

I've a;ways been fascinated by tornadoes, but I'm scared silly of them!
