here's a case for use of CL sim software. This girl spent 5 minutes on the sim and then solo'ed on the real thing.

So two big questions....

How does the handle hook up and where do you get the software????

I would dump XBox and jump on this!

I like the rubber bands hooked to the wall for "line tension".

Here's what I've learned so far:
  • The software is AeroFly Professional Deluxe. It's the only software that allows to perform this function.
  • In order to make a model fly around a person, you need to setup a scenario with a person.
  • Pick a model light enough so the person does not fall over. Yes, the software simulates line tension physics. Cool eh?
  • Modify model file to include glider launch hook and place it at the right wing tip
  • Use Glider launch function to start the Sim scenario.
  • use keyboard control to place yourself where the person is. use keyboard to throttle up
  • the hardware is from an old joystick

That is really cool. Robert, I guess there would have to be a "FOM" rule!?!? (Flyer of Model)   LL~

What a neat idea, and with more development, it could be a real plane saver. Of course, there never will be a substitute for the real deal! But still pretty cool.

Just like with Real Flight sim for R/C.

I can not tell you how many times I have planted the jet in the middle of some field I can not even see on the monitor.

I do like to take the B-17, and turn on the smoke then fly it around me like a scale CL plane.
I also beef up the engines and try and 3D it. Lots of fun on a cold winter day.

What I've been doing lately, is landing on the tops of buildings, and right after takeoffs, knocking the landing gear of and practicing belly landings. Also been practicing landing inverted! LL~

You guys all watch out, I am killer on Gran Turismo 3/4, this would hardly be any different.

Seriously, Gran Turismo 4 is the best stunt vision training I have yet seen. You will either quickly learn to handle discontinuous motion, or you will spend a lot of time in the gravel trap. I particularly recommend GT 4, Nurburgring Nordschlieffe, and a Formula 1 car. If you can manage that, all the turbulence coming over the NATS Circus Tent will be child's play.

I think this would get my grand kids back to flying again.  My son learned to do maneuver flying a combat kite many many years ago.  Hope this guy get his simulator on the market. H^^

Thanks, Steve,

That C/L flight simulation software looks cool, though it appears somewhat basis. This is software I would be tempted to buy if a well developed version were available. Of course the software companies that develop R/C flight simulation software have no idea I would be interested in a C/L version.
So, I decided to let them know by filing an enhancement request.

http://www.knifeedge.com/contacts.php

It only took two minutes and if others follow suit they may just consider developing a C/L version.

 ;)

I went and sent in a request, hopefully they'll consider it if they hear from enough of us!
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, signed a blank check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life." I just sent one in too, and I have no idea why I only just looked at this now, but this is AWESOME!!!  It could help out over the winter when we're not flying.

These new gadgets are interesting.  But I've taught many how to fly.  The two causes of "first flight" crashes are:

1. Dizziness.  That would be hard to duplicate standing in front of a computer screen.

2. Disorientation.  With the background spinning around for real, the beginner loses spacial orientation.  In a simulator, peripheral vision keeps everything in its proper place.

Computer games are for little kids.  They have little connection to reality.

I think I know what Flyod means.  After learning to fly RC and flying for several years, I tried the RC simulator.  Lost count of how thousands of dollars of equipment I tore up according to the simulator.  I couldn't find the run way and kept going wrong direction at times.   Of course my Grandaughter who was with me at the shop in FLORIDA flew the plane on the simulator with no troubles.   H^^

Hy Guys,
I wonder if they could incorporate cordless Nitendo Wii / Xbox technology into the handle that would better mimic real handle movement of a standing flyer using real arm and wrist motions. This would move the concept from being a wonderful toy to being a useful training simulator for everything but wingovers and overhead 8's. Nifty stuff!! #^
