Just came from the site.  Great pics and report.  I do know where Akron is as we passed thru/by on way to Massechusetts when the NATS were held there.

Rog,
Great place for a contest. I liked arriving early and looking at all the military aircraft on the flight deck before any flying started. The atmosphere set the bar high as far as contest locations. I sure would like to see a contest happening there next year again. If you plan it, it will happen.

Thanks for the reply guys. One of the big things about being there is the spectator traffic. We do get a lot of questions about how to get started in this activity. Hopefully it will lead to new members, we all know how important that is. The more we are seen, the better the chances are that we will stir interest. Hopefully next year we will be able to sponsor more events with other groups. (ie racing, combat, speed, scale, etc). ANY suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

Hi Roger and Ray, I am quite sure that you guys did an outstanding job with your MAPS Site Contest! My huge regret is that I was unable to get there this year! Work gets in the way of so many worthwhile things! Don't know at this point if next year will be any different though, sadly! 'Twas quite nice to see so many new faces in the Western segment of the eastern zone. I am sure that Bob and Buddy had a fine time out there with Billy! Congratulations on a fine job to all the Akron Guys with an extra pat on the heads for the Cleveland North Coast Club members who helped out with the judging and printing and such!

Here are some of my Cleveland/Akron Contest photos. They were taken with my little digital with max magnification of 2.0x; so don't expect too much. It was a very enjoyable weekend with great competitors and camaraderie. Surroundings were great, as was hospitality.

1) Bob McDonald's Rolland McDonald Strathmoor Detroit stunter fly-past in Classic.

2) Wes Dick and '62 Ares composite.

3) Bob McDonald's Detroiter.

4) Wes Dick's "Velvet" with interesting bi-directional, double, slotted flaps.

7) Bob Hudak scores Clyde Richie as his profile Nobler passes.

8 ) Jim Skinners "Guided Whistle" OTS entry.

9) Don Sopka and Frank Zabudske with Don's Tutor II

Well, well... I'll try again. I already submitted #31-40, but apparently exceeded the 1000 Kb limit. When I went back to re-edit the submission, all the pictures were gone. So I put in # 31-37 again, only to be told that I'd already submitted that one, with no option to re-enter.

Here we are again:

31) Bob Hunt, Bill Werwage, Ryan's Eagle Fly Past.

32) Ryan's Eagle Head On.

33) Ryan's Eagle Skyward.

34) Bob McDonald's P-47 Vertical.

35) e-Stunters in Expert: Bud Wieder's "Ryan's Eagle", Scott Reynolds' "Voltaire", Bob Hunt's "Crossfire."

36) Dan Bregar's e-Magician.

You may call yourself an amatuer, but, I like the action shots more than someone just standing holding a plane or the plane just by itself.  Keep up the grea work.

Paul-

Bill has been very busy with some pretty hard work with his horses, but as we type, he is in eastern PA in a great shop working to complete a new contest plane he started a while back (his own new shop isn't finished yet). He plans to compete at the World Team trials and the Nats next summer, hoping to use the new plane. He shamed me into getting back to my basement work area to work on my two projects (he then asked whether I had accidentally fallen down those stairs to finally get there). 'sounds as though he's pretty serious. For someone who hasn't flown a lot recently, he looked awfully good flying unfamiliar planes after the contest. Top contenders said they thought he might well have won, if he'd entered.

Doc - I like the action shots too, but they're more a matter of luck with me; the shutter goes off when it feels like it. When I use flash, sometimes people have walked out of my pictures by the time it decides to go off. Fortunately it doesn't need a calendar in the daytime!

I hope I haven't committed a faux Pas in posting these, since I had promised someone he could publish anything he found useful. 'been on auto pilot and adrenalin this week and didn't think. So maybe we can keep this quiet among the several hundred of us. Oh, yeah...

Hi Serge, Great pictures! Thanks ever so much for posting them! Now for the nosy part; what does Dave Heinzman power his neat new ship with? I think I may have seen an LA .46 peeking out of his cowl but aren't sure.

Phil-

I e-mailed Dave for you, but he replied that he'd already e-mailed you direct.

It's really interesting to see which kinds of picture get the most hits and relative amounts down the scale. Some of my favorites get very low numbers. That may influence what kind of photos I take for the club newsletter too, although preferences may vary on the local level. 'have to think that the club guys like to see themselves and their friends in "action" as well as new projects. This was a good exercise after all.
