The long way to Treetown...

 So, I'm on my way to the Treetown contest in Sugar Grove, Illinois for the weekend. The contest is Sunday only, but I'm making a few day trip out of it and I stopped by the EAA Museum in Oshkosh, WI today. This was my first visit in about 5 or 6 years. I was really wanting to give a much closer look at a display that I remember from my last visit. It was like a complete vintage hobby shop, full of inventory with a lot of neat old stuff. Well on that one I was disappointed, it's not there anymore.

 However, it was a nice suprise to see this display. There is a new room with separate displays covering all the main types of aircraft modeling. This is what they had as the Control Line display...

 It said the Olympique is one from Bob Gialdini himself along with the "P-47". I think it said Fred Krueger on the other two stunters. The I-beamer looked really cool, and BIG!


 Another thing spotted was this little old plastic RTF jobbie. Anyone know the scoop on this one?

The drawing on the poster with the two boys flying combat and the title "Control Line" is on the cover of the December 1954 Flying Models magazine.  I found it in my grandmother's attic, in a little retreat that my uncle had apparently built for himself.

It has an interesting plan for a control line flying boat, if you can find any OTS contests that allow ROW.

The color scheme and design of the aircraft is absolutely perfect!
Its been along time since I have seen an airplane that screamed at me"BUILD!"

Does anyone know who built the various airplane?

  Jim Krueger did build the two larger .60 size ships in addition to the Curtis Jenny that he built as a twelve or 13 year old, and Bob Gialdini had several of his originals in there. Former Junior NATS Stunt Champ Sean Elliott had several R/C models, and that war weary Grumman Guardian was built by Burt Rutan. In the description it's called a Hellcat, but it's a Gaurdian for sure and probably a Berkeley kit. All in all a nice exhibit. I saw it while working the KidVenture deal. They did not have the life size Guillows Birdog however due to some technical difficulties.
  Wayne, I've been going to Oshkosh for ten years straight and I don't remember a hobby shop display. You may be thinking of the one in the AMA museum at Muncie? A few years back the had a large display of Charles Lindberg memorabilia. That was pretty cool!
