Well, I have started building one. I had my first attempt at cutting the leading edge cores last winter but I was not happy with them and they have been cluttering up my bench all year. I have now started a build using them - it was either that or throw them away!
The main struggle I was having was the slot for the leading edge so I decided to do away with it and use light 3/16" balsa. I could never see how the assembly of the wing and fuselage worked as, with the combat models that influenced the design, the fuselage is slotted in from the back and if the 2 spars and the leading edge were fitted this wouldn't work. My solution is to put a slot in the root end of the cores and fit a 8 5/8" wide joiner made from 1/8" ply (I may laminate it from a mix of 1/32" ply and balsa to save weight) to the fuselage before sliding it onto the assembled leading edge. I will have to do the paper covering after the fuselage is glued in place which is an extra complication but on the plus side, I will be able to make sure that the front fuselage is perfectly square with the wing leading edge before the glue dries.

Mike , one of my favorite profile designs!! Good luck with your building, do you have an original to copy? Clayton was a talented builder and flyer.

No not only do I not have an original but I haven't even seen one in the flesh. I don't know if any found there way this side of the pond.

I am using Solidworks version 2010. I have been a fulltime CAD user since 1980 and now that I am retired I still spend most of my time using it. I am currently doing all the drawings (900+ so far) for the recreation of a fullsize Baldwin narrow gauge locomotive - see my design blog for more info.

That's amazing stuff on Solidworks. I was an off and on user of Solidworks and Mechanical Desktop for a lot of years in the Aerospace industry. You've done some great work there with the Locomotive.

The Teosawki is looking good...great flying airplane.

Right, I think that I have finally understood the way the wing leading edge assembles. I think that the leading edge centre strip is made from 2 parts, a 3/8" X 1/8" spruce strip and a 1/8" balsa filling strip. These are glued together then glued into the front fuselage assembly and it is this assembly that is slide onto the assembles foam and spar leading edge main part. It is too late for this first one I am building but I will probably do a second one once the first is finished.
I have also, finished the stab ready to add the hinges. made the fin, and am well on with the rear fuselage. I can see how, once organised, Clayton could make them in quantity. I would guess that one could be finished every couple of days.
I will need to update my templates once I get this one finished but I will post the final set once I am done.

Just the trailing edge joiner and the center section sheeting to make then I will have all the bits and assembly can start.

I am using Xmas wrapping paper (the thinnest I can find). Now I wait till the first side dries to make sure that it looks OK then do the second side.
My Wife says she will buy me a matching tie for Christmas!

Hey Mike, the Christmas wrapping paper is a great idea. You should have used something with Ol' St Nick on it however...

Hi Randy

I was looking for something with a small repeated pattern with enough randomness to hide the joins.
The secret seems to be to wet the paper well then apply it with a 50/50 thinned white glue. The shrinkage then removes the wrinkles and, if there are still any (usually where the paper folds around the back of the spar) some judicious work with a film iron will smooth them away.
I am starting to get the bits together. It is quite different to my usual jig built stunt wing and I would guess that Clayton has some nifty jigs to hold thing in the right place. I am having to use the Mk1 eyeball and that is tricky as the lenses in my eye were replaced with plastic ones that have a fixed focus so aligning the tips is proving a bit tricky. I will build some sort of jig for the next one.

Well, it is starting to look like a Teosawki. the rear end is still to be finished and glued on and I still have the elevator to make but it is moving quickly now. I am hoping that today will see the structure all together.

Well
I plan to cover the wings with thin mylar like the combat models. I have some proper stuff and some slightly thicker that I might try. The rear fuselage assy is being tissue covered with a lovely<G> lime green lightweight tissue that last saw service wrapped around some flowers. I may also do some color decoration with other colors of tissue. I am also tempted to paint the front fuselage red to match the leading edge.
