...Tank and tank heights...
« on: September 13, 2007, 09:15:19 AM »
 :!  Mornin fellow modelers,
I am in the process of installing my first rear exhaust engine, and I see that the needle is about 5/8" above the engine lugs.
My questions are, do you set your tank with the feed line at the same height as the needle with room for adjustments, or set it at the same as the needle?
Do you prefer a hard tank or a clunk tank and why, also what manner of adjustment do you use on your soft (clunk) tanks ?

Gil, it is the height of the uniflow outlet in the tank which is important, not the height of the pick up.  With a hard tank, I would put both in line with the needle and be ready to move the tank up or down a little bit.  It may work fine just to pivot the tank to raise or lower the rear end.  You want to put the tank where the engine runs right.

In recent years, I have done one built in tank, with a side-mounted ED Racer (rear intake).  I lined things up like I though they should be and got it right.  But I have quit while ahead and do not plan to build in a nonadjustable tank again.
