Super Tiger 46

Is the super tiger 46 that great of an engine? One new in box just sold for over $300.00 on the bay. Am I the only one that thinks that was totally crazy to pay that much.

NIB? worth it imho. I wonder if the Brautlecht collection has one NIB. I'm not a collector so it's not practical for me to pay that much with so many alternatives today. Not too many brand new SuperTigers still around from the 70's.

Yes that's silly.  The Tigre .46 was a great engine but will need bearings and rings pretty often.  On the other hand the Enya .45 6001 is equal to or better and hardly ever wears out.  It's better made.  I see them ignored on the bay regularly and are sold at very low prices- I've bought new ones there for under 50.00.  Even if they need controline conversion they are a bargain and shouldn't be overlooked these days when good engines are harder to come by.  Put model engines Enya on your search function and check it often.  I've about 15 Enyas all sizes and have no bad ones.

Hey Dave, quit giving out one the best kept secrets on the bay! Actually Dave is absolutely correct. Old school type of run but very hard to wear out. Frank Bowman has rings for them if you need them.

  That's way more than I would pay for one, but three mitigating factors:

I already have one (a very good one)
I am not a collector
I actually used to fly stunt with them

As I happen to own them, they are VERY VERY sweet motors. Maybe one of the all time sweetest stunt motors ever made. But, Dave Trible is absolutely right, the Enya's are better.

But, the ST 46 has something you can't manufacture-MOJO!! There is not a stunt motor I know of, that has more JUJU then an ST 46.

Yes, of course your right Brett. Better and more powerful motors came along. But it is a testament to the motors lasting MOJO that, they just spent $310 for a 1970's era control line stunt motor.

Actually I have a ST46 with upgraded bearings and an ABC piston and sleeve.  I have currently only run it on the bench but have plans for it soon in a Hunt Genesis IV.  It runs very well on the bench and only cost me about $350.00 to put together...Oh well.  I have about 6 of the things stock NIB...and no I'm not really a collector, and NO they're not for sale.   

I also used to fly them and would never compare one to a VF40...imagine the hurt feelings of the poor little tiger being compared to a monster like that...

Maybe it is MoJo...whatever that is.
