Strathmoor finished!!
« on: October 24, 2006, 11:33:17 AM »
Well, at long last, I finally have it done. (except for my AMA number) I had many bumps along the way, but found my way around and thru them with a little help from some guys on the forum, so THANKS you guys  8) .

I am pleased with the overall look of the plane and paint scheme. The scheme was the last hurdle I had, mostly a mental block as to what would look good. I settled on "simple". I didnt have time for anything else really. I was limited to the Sig Aerocote and spraypaint, mostly cause I didnt have to know how or time to make dope look good. I sanded the fues bare 4 times, and then just covered it in the Aerocote.

I had a great time building this plane. My thanks to Joe Mader at Sams Stuff Hobbies for such a neet kit. It was my first laser cut kit. I like laser cut, its.......fun.  I would build another.

The plane came out at 42.4oz. Thats before balance weight. I have not put the plane on the balancer yet, but I shortened the nose about an inch, and have a Brodak 40 on it for power. Thats about as light up front as I could get.

I'll give a flight report when I can, but that does not look like I will be flying it anytime soon.  (I am moving and starting a new job)

Thanks for letting me share this project with you guys,

Greg

Pretty, Pretty Plane!!!  I like the "simple" paint scheme and the color selection too.

Good luck with the move and let us know how it flies.

Thanks for the compliments you guys. I actually like the way it turned out. I had my doubts till it was almost done. I am pleasantly suprised at the results. I lucked into this one.

I had found out just how difficult it is to make a soft, large grain wood look smooth. I gave up and put film on it. I have even more respect now for those fine doped finishes and the guys that do that. I'll try again on my next one.

Jay, if I can make the Nov get togather, I will. We'll see how the new job goes first. I miss flying with you guys, thats for sure.

Does the Strathmoor use a conventional or I-beam wing? Nice work.

Thanx
