Sterling Skylark Canopy?
« on: February 23, 2024, 09:37:48 PM »
Found a canopy among a large group of parts I acquired, and the lot included a Sterling Skylark kit without canopy.  This one has heavy lines.  For those that have the kit or built one - is this the Sterling canopy?

TIA!

I'm pretty sure that is. I have to think where my kit is stored to check but I'm pretty sure is was very "military" or fighter like in shape and design. If you can fins any of the 3 different plans on line you can check it against those. You have the Sterling kit plan, the M.A.N. plan and the plan that came with Kenn Smith's kit. The Sterling kit plan or the instruction sheet shows a decent drawing of the canopy I believe and maybe has the length also.

Yes, that is the canopy for the Sterling Skylark kit.
It is quite a coincidence that I made a plug for that canopy last week from an original kit.
I’m hoping that someone on the forum could mold a canopy from this plaster plug.
Any takers?

Thanks much guys!  The information available and exchanged here is ... well, like the TV commercial says, "Priceless!"

I would be interested in a couple if someone takes up the project. If I remember correctly, they are the same basic canopy as on a couple of other classic models also, possible some of the Midwest models like Panther and Cougar???

I sort of think the canopy was the same on the Skylark and the Sterling Spitfire,   the Spitfire came first i believe.   Could be they saved a buck by adapting that canopy to the Skylark.

For what it's worth, Brodak has, or used to have, a large selection of canopies.
You might want to check it out.

Definitely not the Panther, these pics show the one from the Midwest kit.

Dave. The Spitfire canopy was way too small to work on the Skylark. The Skylark canopy was made for that kit.
I even think the Spitfire canopy was too small for the Spitfire.

Tony may well be.   I’ve had/built both in the last few years but don’t have either now.  They look quite a bit alike but can be different sizes.

Thanks!
