HI Mike,

I know that Walter Umland had some parts laser cut some time back (or he came across some from someone else), so I would contact him.

Maybe Barry Baxter has a set of plans, also.  I haven't seen them listed on Randy's site.

Hey Bill

Thanks for the reply.  I looked at Barry's site and did not see it listed.  He has a full body version but not the profile.  I will contact Walter.

Thank you

Mike

Hi Wes.

OOppsss...........  :o  I had forgot that John was making that kit.  Has anyone seen one to verify the wing construction and such as to whether it uses a big LE or not?  I know many of the repop kits John has brought out use various LE construction methods unlike the originals.  Not that it bothers me, but some like it to be *like it really was*.

I know that Barry (and some others) sometimes draw the LE as two pieces of 3/8th" at an angle to mimic the old solid LE, Like GMA did on the original Flight Streak.  I just use a piece of solid formed LE and hollow it towards the tips.  Dee Rice has really got a great thing doing with his molded LEs.  They float out of your hand and are very strong!

Hey Bill,

If you were to find an original set of plans for this plane, they wouldn't help you much in the building.  No full size views of anything.  Fairly comprehensive written instructions with small illustrations to sort of let you know what they were talking about.

I built a lot of these back in the day. I flew them as a Jr. both for Combat and Stunt.  Later I flew them in Open Slow Combat.  Just so happens I have all the parts traced.  Including the wooden control horns from a Sterling kit and the profile of the leading edge (solid, notched for rib spacing). As I am obviously sitting here at my computer, I'm not looking at the plans and I don't even know if I drew plans.  I think I could put one together blind folded.  I do have my own which is hanging on the wall and I could measure rib spacing etc off of it.   Mine has a Johnson .35-S on it and I have flown it a few times but mostly it is just for the heck of it.

If you have any interest call me at 405-293-9276 or PM me.

Later,  John

John,  to me that is what made the Sterling kits so great.  You got a written lesson on how to build the plane as well as finish it.   Now Brodak comes close with his building manuals he puts in his kits.  But, he still puts in full size plans.  The last time I looked I think you can now get laser cut parts for some of his kits.  Don't take my word for it tho.
