Stability
« on: April 07, 2006, 10:24:23 AM »
What, if any, effect does a combat streamer have on stability?  Seems to me that it might add a little tail-heaviness (?)  but kites are more stable with tails.  I've never flown with a streamer, but I'm sure someone can enlighten me.  I have a real squirrelly half A and I'm wondering if I can just tow something or go ahead and move the CG forward.  Or both.

The streamer will stabilize the plane,it will not turn as tight or be as fast.
If the thing is slightly tail heavy to promote a tight turn without the streamer, it will be too tail heavy and might snap roll on you or kill too much air speed.
You are trying to hit a happy medium of tight turns without killing the air speed.

Thanks, I've moved the engine forward and reduced elevator travel.  I'll fool around with streamers after I get the thing to fly without.
