ST.51 Prop shaft extension.
« on: December 13, 2022, 09:38:51 PM »
I'm in need of a source for a 1/2" prop shaft extension for my ST.51.  Building an Umland 660 Profile Stiletto.

Any 1/2" extension for a 1/4" shaft should work. There is a small step right at the prop hub that is 8mm I think, and props, spinners and such need to have a step reamed to just clear that. So, any old Fox, Veco, or any shaft extension you can find should work. I just don't know if any one is making any right now. Hae you checked the Brodak web site to see if they produce one?

Thanks for the reply, Dan. The one Walter drew into the plans actually has another prop driver on it. Appears to have internal threads with an extended shaft. I'll check Brodak.

Brodak have 1/4 28 prop shaft extensions available.
I'm afraid I can't recommend them.
I was lucky to find 2 x Fox extensions that are great.
I believe Sparky uses Jim Lee prop extensions on his ST60.

You will also need to drill out every prop that you use a prop extension on.

Probably, I can work with that.  I've got a request in to Jim Lee, about the needed extension. We will see what happens.

If your really cuning , you could get a 'Extended prop driver spinner backplate ' . :P Mr Lee could manadge it ! .

As in a machined set up including the spinner back plate - 1/2 inch fwd. , to replace the S Tigre prop driver AND extension AND spiner back plate ,

With a ONE PIECE part , rather'n three .

A THING with S Tigre Prop Drivers , tapers , and brass collets . You GOTTA clean them . If theyre off and slightly soiled - they wont grip .
Trying to tighten the prop - it can blow / crack / snap the Cast Prop Drive before it grips propper . SO if its removed , pull the collet &
wash the shaft collet and driver good in thinner or suchlike , before refitting .  :P

I think it shows one on this drawing . or the second from right bit , on the one below . To size for YOUR set up , obviously . Perhaps . . . Ultra Decadent .  ;D

Thanks, that's good information.  I've been searching (with no luck) for a Veco 1.75 needle nose spinner, which is what is called for on the plans.

Ive Got a 1 3/4 inch needle nose spinner . And your NOT Getting It ! .  VD~

Ive also got a 1 3/4 BRODAK spinner . Same Applies .  ;D

HOWEVER , part from the NOSE scew retainer THING , Theyre IDENTICAL. The Same Even . Not just CLOSE , but The SAME .

AND theyre Illegal ! as theyre to pointy ! BUT if you wanna de point , yer only need the little bit wot goes on front , If you
rounded it off , it'd be the same as the Brodak . Looks a bit meaner & nastier with the point at the extremity though .

But Just Grab a BROADAK 1 3/4 alloy spinner , & go from there . theyre better concenticity - location etc .

Order 2 blade , three blade , or uncut . Drills Easy as soft , so want care , whittles with hobby knife , for close cut outs - if you do em Y'self .   H^^
