Spray adhesive and Monokote
« on: December 10, 2023, 12:45:32 PM »

This could be tired old news to everyone, but spraying adhesive on the back side of a monokote patch when repairing a tear makes the job easier and manageable. It eliminates the need for an extra set of hands.

The spray has to be a dusting. Holding the can about three feet away gives the right amount. This will let you position, stretch, lift and reposition the piece a number of times after letting the adhesive set for about a minute after spraying.

Below is a four bay repair on a Buster from spar to LE. The first photo is the patch positioned and stretched out with only the spray adhesive holding it on, and the second is after the application of heat. Not much difference.

     Hello Fred,

I used 3M Super 77 spray adhesive. The can is almost empty so my guess is that it's somewhere between a year or two old.

Glad that works for you.  When doing a big area like that I just put the MonoKote on like I was doing it for the first covering after cleaning the areas it is going to cover. D>K
