When you say "in primer" what primer are you talking about.. DupliColor? If it is DupliColor can you tell me what a coat weighs before sanding? Just wondering how it compairs with a ZS filler coat following Randy's instructions which is 0.9 ounces before completely dry or sanded...Maybe I should add, this is on a 680 sq/in wing..
All I can say is, you and some others on here do GREAT WORK!
Yes. I got a coat of grey on, filled the major cracks that showed up and sanded it down. Then I sprayed the final coat of grey on. Tomorrow I will start masking for the trim. I will also post pics tomorrow.
I used regular old Spackle, sanded it down and sprayed over it. Spackle is water based and takes a long time to dry, but comes off like powder. It is actually the same material that is on my ceiling at my house.
Matt, congrats on one very fine looking model. I'm sure you're proud but I'm absolutely positive your gramps is bustingat the seams with pride in you. It should be a great flyer at that weight, we'll look forward to the flight reports/
Thanks John, If you look in one of the above pictures, it shows I am spraying with an airbrush. I prefer to spray with an airbrush, because it is light and I have been using that longer and am more comfortable spraying with it rather than a big spray gun. I'm actually suprised how quickly the paint went on.I can't wait to see it fly either.
Matt:I got two words for ya buddy: SHOW-OFF!!! That is a wonderful trim scheme, true to the theme of the I-Beamers of that era. You really nailed it. I think it is going to be a winner for you, just as it was for Billy.
Hey Matt,You did a "Great Job" on your new "Ares". Like Dennis Adamissin said, I think you nailed it. I think Grandpa and I are going to have to think about retiring if you keep going down the "Path" you're on. Grandpa has certainly been a "Good Teacher". Looking forward to seeing the two of you at our "Big Jim" Stunt Contest in May. That's the week after "Labor Day" weekend.Remaining yours in STUNT,"Champione"
HI Matt. That is too neat. Pure classic. I think I'll steal the design for my new 59 Ares.
Hi Matt,You're right, Memorial Day Weekend, that is the week after.See what happens when you get old, you lose all track of time. Don't worry though, your time will come just like the rest of us older folk.Cheers,Bob
Not only did the plane turn out great, but the pictures did too....I'm dazzled!
Hi Matt She looks real good. Be sure to let us know how she flies. You think you'll make it out to Flushing the season?
MattGreat job building a perfect Ares. Like the trim work andthe light wieght of the stunter. I gota build me one........ Bryan
Very, VERY nice job Matt! As good as it gets...Congratulations!Keep up your dedication to model airplanes (besides study, of course) and you'll be a happy person for the rest of your life...Claudio.
Matt, get a hold of someone already in the airline business. I too thought I would love to fly the big birds. Besides not having the money for the education required I realized I had some physical disabilities also. This day and age you need at least a college education as well as tons of flying experience. DOC Holliday
The one thing I would need to do is get in shape, which may take a little bit. There is a local airport that I think gives out flying lessons, but we don't have the money. One college in Florida, prefers we have less flight experience before going to college. I still have time since I'm only a Freshman in High school.
Matt, get a scholarship, go to college, and then FLY NAVY. Lot's of flying hours, real flying. Then apply to an airline. I know many former Naval Aviators that have done this. Fly and get paid. See the world, but to be honest it is a lot of water.
