Something that is a little different

Mike McHenry built this and posted some pictures of it on facebook.  He didn't give it a name but I really liked the looks of it because of its very close resemblance to a real civilian airplane.  Modern PA Stunt ships all seem to look a lot alike and when something different comes along it kind of appeals to me.  Just something different I wanted to share.

  On the cover of an American Aircraft Modeler magazine is a civilian P-63 I believe done in a two tone yellow and white and is quite attractive. I'll have to dig it out to get further information. This one is pretty nice. Hard core war bird enthusiasts will have an issue with it, but I like it.

Bob, Mike did not post a lot of details about the model but I will see if I can find out anymore information.  I would like to know too.

 It's obviously painted like the top photo in Paul W's post, except for the chevron on the rudder. Looks to me like it may be the P-39 from Bill Simmons?  I don't think it's a Walt Pyron version. just from looking at the photos. That's my guess.

It's a P-39 created from drawings and ideas between myself and Keith Bryant. This is my second one. I enlarged the tail surfaces and increased the control movement. I was lucky enough to find the civilian paint scheme. Easier to see with dark backgrounds.
Power: PA65 w/ header muffler
Prop: 13.5 x 4.5 3B
Span: 62"
Weight: 67oz
So far only 5 flights, but definitely shows potential.

   I found the magazine, June 1971 American Modeler. A P-63 with yellow bottom, white top and separated by a black trim stripe.  Description says owned at that time by Alvin T. George from Atlanta. Would make a very nice looking Midwest stunter!
   This is a great issue of the magazine. It has Bill Suarez's Phantom and Crusader stunt models, a full size P-nut plan, a Bill Warner article on modifying Sleek Streek dime store airplanes for better performance, and a neat looking Sopwith Pup for R/C or free flight. I still have my original issue from the subscription I had that I begged my Mom for as a birthday present! Still giving me great joy all these years later! And the subscription price was only $7.50 back then, but that was more that I could hustle up and also for a widow raising 9 kids by herself. But Mom came through and I'm still eternally grateful!

Beautiful bird there.   I too like the P-39/P-63 design.  Never really got my Umland version sorted out before I splattered.

Fantastic. Nice to see a warbird not done as often as a Mustang or Spitfire
