I can't tell for sure exactly what was used for the attack attempt in that sketchy vid... but if that WAS a quad copter "drone" like we all understand the usage of the word "drone" in the modeling world... then it will indeed increase the intensity of governing bodies to get some type of controls in place over them.

Yeah, I expect it'll probably cause a stir. Look at the bad ass armor on this Venezuelan soldier. He's got about 6 rounds of mean looking ammo too.

Well, they are dedicated and purist socialists, so of course they managed to go broke in a few years in a haze of official corruption - even though they are sitting on huge oil reserves. They can't afford food, much less ammo.

Not really so mean.  The ammo is smoke and gas grenades!  We used similar stuff back in the 70's and 80's.

The Armor does look pretty good if it's not just for show and fear tactics!

Looks like mostly non-lethal crowd control stuff!

Oh, I bet you're right, Randy. I had been imagining small RPGs or some similar hellfire.

Actually an authoritative source is reporting that the explosion was probably a LPG tank exploding inside a nearby apartment building.

Floyd....Admittedly I have Zero knowledge about this attack...drone or not...BUT

Today we have SMART munitions that can be set to detonate Immediate or ANY delayed length of time.... we can penetrate quite a deep depth into a hardened bunker to blow INSIDE

Current weapons and ammunition technology is very sophisticated .... hell when I retired (Aircraft Armament) in 1996 we have some cool toys
that went boom....grin

We have ammo for a 50 cal long range sniper rifle that will penetrate a cinder block wall and then blow the IR viewed bad guy in a bloody mess

We have a member here who and fly a drone thousands of mils...loiter,,,, and on command---place a Hell Fire Missile up a Camels Butt with great precision....making the bad guy now one with the earth and very little DNA left to confirm the kill

Yes some of this is disturbing..IF you are NOT aware of the Bad guys intent for all of us Infidells

My thoughts exactly.
Just as the drone gets in frame and in focus it explodes.

Yes, one of the press reports suggested that it was an Army drone that went out of control and so was shot down. It seems that there were a few VA drones filming the parade.

It doesn't matter if it was a Drone (multi-rotor aircraft) or an explosion in a building. Don't confuse people with the facts.  People will now realize that these "toys" can be weaponized. There will be a cry raised that Washington "must do something". This incident will start the political set to jumping on the band wagon to outlaw all small aircraft. Almost all the politicians know virtually nothing except about politics. Their idea of problem solving is to pass a law so they can say they solved the problem. It matters not that their "solution" is totally ineffective they can say they did something.
When the drone thing started I said that the high end ones that have GPS and multiple programmable way points  are "Fire and Forget" weapons. There are crazy people out there that are smart enough to figure out that these aircraft can be used as weapons. I fear that we may be lucky if we can fly two line stunt kites by the time our esteemed representatives finish with this.

These so called politicians have passed all kinds of laws for gun control and it is getting worse.  The criminals don't follow laws like the honest people do.   Remember locks only keep honest people out.   The politicians need to get off their over size behind and get out into the public areas to see what is going on.   Like the dangerous areas of Chicago and LA or even KCMo. Hey Doc I know you know this....many or even most politicians on all three sides have their own deep seated fears, beliefs, and attitudes because of how they were brought up

and the ONLY way a base belief can be changed is by a SIGNIFICANT EMOTIONAL EVENT

I truly believe if some MS 13 ( or any other GANG) member physically threatened or actually maimed or killed some one in the politicians family....they would be RABID 2nd Amendment supporters.....

On the other hand I suspect my assessment above is false...they do support self defense (they pay for pro protective services) they just do not want you and I to have that RIGHT

On-going dialog (perhaps just the media to the politicians and vice versa?) from the Venezuela media event:

     http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/technology/venezuela-attack-highlights-vulnerability-to-drone-assassins/ar-BBLB99A?ocid=ientp

Wondering what it is going to take before the AMA understands the magnitude of the threat that they are championing. The problem is the autonomous flight/autopilot capability. Even modelers on this forum do not acknowledge this as the discriminator. Remove that and now the threat is both manageable and subject to clear regulation. See prior discussion with rationale here:

"DRONES" have been regulated for ages....the degree is escalating.
19around 1956 the was a group that flew their early RC stuff at O'Hare Field {primarily military then) and someone thought it would be nifty to fly his 8' Cub near the flightline. When he hit a parked C-119, all RC activity was banned.
New Jersians used to enjoy flying both RC and CL at the Meadowlands' parking lot. Until someone brilliantly flew into the Goodyear blimp. Explaining to management that RC and UC were different did no good.

It's the miniaturization and low cost of previously sophisticated components that has the Feds worried; both multi-rotor and fixed wing.

And the Feds continue to differentiate at all but the top levels.

I am getting more and more concerned that the AMA in their passion to save the FPV crowd will kill the entire hobby.  If I were an official in homeland security I would be working long and hard to ban them entirely, even though I own three and they are a lot of fun.  Is there anything the unwashed masses out here can do to help educate the AMA that they are on a suicide mission?

Sad part is that the Genie is already out of the bottle.  There are millions of these already out there and a ban would only take them out of the hands of the people using them responsibly but when did logic ever enter into anything involving the government.  No wonder all of the hobby shops in our area are getting out of flying stuff - they see what is coming.

My heart goes out to the RC community.  They will be decimated.  There is some hope for indoor and C/L but only if we fight it on our own.  AMA is going to be useless until it is too late.
