Sig Clipped Wing Cub Gal
« on: December 14, 2009, 05:27:13 PM »
I remember way back when Sig was advertising their Clipped Wing Cub in the magazines, that they had a young gal that won Junior Scale at one of the big contests.  I have always wondered what became of her.  Did she stay in the hobby, or find boys! LOL  I have that kit and whenever I look at it that question always pops into my head.  Help me out fella's and give this question an answer. LOL Thanks H^^

Do you remember the time span? I remember pics of Hazel with her full-size clipped wing Cub.

Probably early to middle '70s.  I can't see it being any later than that, although I guess it could be a little earlier.

I remember the girls picture in the SIG catalog and I got my first one in the early 80's. Sorry, I don't remember her name.

I think you are referring to Julie Able. She even had a model design, I think  Wittman Tailwind, published in Model Aviation. Julie came from a modeling family here in the St. Louis area, and her brother Dan lives near me and i see him on occasion. He dad's name is Dave, I believe, and was a McDonnell-Douglas employee who worked on RPV development. Dave was a C/L scale modeler probably best known for a large scale model he did of the "Loving's Love" air racer that he did. Ever see the AMA file, "Those Marvelous Miniatures"? I believe that was the film that had a few quick shots of the Able family flying a ducted fan MIG.  I'm not sure exactly where Julie is now, I think she's married, lives back east and works in aero-space in some form. I'll have to email her brother Dan and have him fill me in on the details.
I'm pretty sure that is who you are remembering.
   Type at you later,
