Flying Circles Baton rouge
« on: March 25, 2016, 09:46:34 AM »
Just passed by the circles in Baton Rouge on my way to Hobbytowne and I see the cement circles being destroyed... Anyone of yall locals knows what's happening?? Kinda disheartening.

Extending parking lot for waterpark. The semi circle is planned to be finished bit the full circle will be gone.

The circle that is left will be so pinched in on the west side and south side as to be unusable, except possibly for .35 and under stunters. We are in contact with BREC now.

Be nice if all this really gets sorted.

Last time I was at the Circles the Waterpark was being built... that was for the 2010 Charlie Melancon Meet... Today I go and I witness the circle being torn up...

Heard it was gona take 18 months to finish the semi-circle.... thats not good.. I was really looking forward to driving the Hour from home to fly with the locals. Not giving up hope yet. I know that field has alot of history.

That may never happen. We have tried to get the circle completely paved in the past and they always tell us they don't have the money. We may not want them to waste money on paving it now, since we really won't be able to use it for our contests-there is simply no room! Even for our normal flying activities it is ,as I have said in a previous thread, too pinched in and too close to water park fencing.

Sure sorry to hear this.  A waterpark is what did in the quite new flying circle in Topeka.  Guess waterparks generate revenue where our flying sites don't.  Topeka is staking out a new grass field which is good news but one wonders how long it will be before the Lpad in Muncie will be the last paved CL site.  There are still a number of good ones scattered around.  Wish there were more new ones being built.  We've already resigned ourselves to the grass around these parts and set our airplanes up to suit.  Good luck in finding a new field- and a good mower.

All indications are the park powers are willing to work some kind of a solution. Brent Rogillio has just had conversations with a few key people today. We will be doing some research on other park areas that may have flying space. There is the very definite possibility that we could get a couple of manicured grass circles put in at an RC park being built on park property on River Rd. near LSU. This property will be leased to the RED STICK RC Club by BREC. This would mean our local C/L fliers would have to become club members and be under their control. Our Bi-Liners guys will need to decide which way they want to go. Basically (2) choices- the "club way", or see if BREC will allow us to have a flying area on one of their park areas (in which case we would be under their control- which has never been a problem in the past). Brent R. and the rest of our guys will be checking out the new property the RC park will be located (in particular where they would put the (2) C/L circles. I believe we would need a 250 yard x 250 yard square to accommodate (2) circles with sufficient space between them and room for a couple of large pit areas. We need some input from people like Frank Williams and others on dimensions. I really would like to know the total yardage on the (2) circle complex at Houston field as well as the (2) circles at Hobby Field (DMAA) in Garland.
One of the park supervisors who is involved in the construction of the RC complex stated to Andy Chase that the complex will be completed by the end  of April. I don't think it will be that soon. Be that as it may, we will still have our OCT. CONTEST AS SCHEDULED. Please make early reservation like most of you did last year-LSU HOME GAME, but this time against a smaller school.
