Prop Feeler
« on: March 15, 2016, 01:43:14 PM »
Is there any great need for a three blade Tornado 10-6 composite made prop?

What would you say the most popular (custom made) stunt prop would be?

Thanks,
MM

MM - My guess is that you will get an abundance of affirmative replies from those who miss the black tornado with the white tips for their classics, but you might be better served to re-post or bump this question up again after VSC is over and everyone has time to get home.

For a "common stunt prop" that's a hard question. What kind of stunt? small 2/4 motor, then the Tornado has a classic appeal. There is a plethora of Chinese 10x5, 10x6, 11x6 etc, wood coming from Brodak and RSM. The old Revup 11.5x6 2b wood was a favorite ST46 prop, along with the Bolly 11.5x6. Electric? Thin, light load props to maximize efficiency and minimize battery waste would be my guess, those pro's will chime in no doubt, but several are being made by Resinger and APC, Eliminator, etc. For Pipe, it depends on motor and size, but personally I like the Bolly 13.5" x4.5  flat back 3 blade that Randy had Mejlik copy. You can cut that down to work on a wide variety of Pipe motors and is my personal one size fits all pipe prop, with just changes in diameter. There are other choices as well...The ST60, I liked the 12.5 x5.5 2blade Bolly, and the ARK Modusa 13" x 5.25 2b. Hard to find now... very thin prop, prolly work good on Epower too... Like I said, very hard question without a more detailed form of a question.

That's probably why I never considered making stunt props to sell. Too many power and size options. Thanks for the info.

Mike and I both tried NOS Tornado 10-4  3-blades and thought they sucked. But I would suggest that a good prop for the OS .46LA would be a safer bet than most.

Hopefully, ZZProp will come through with copies of the TT 11x4.5.  Eliminator Props (see Vendor's section) has a fair selection of RevUp copies, a Tornado 10-4 3 blade copy, and some .40VF props, so try not to duplicate what he already does.  D>K Steve

The 13.5-4.5 three blade that Eric mentioned above would probably be a good one to make for larger piped engines, since Mejlik is no longer making them and they simply are not available anymore.  They are the Universal pipe engine prop with a little rework for diameter for different engines.  Most Expert stunt fliers re-pitch and cut props to suit their particular engine plane combination anyway and that prop is a very good starting place!

I would personally buy a couple immediately if they were available.

I can only make up to a 12" three blade prop or up to a 9" two blade prop right now.

Too bad.

All the props you showed earlier in photos looked first class.  Most Stunt fliers from advanced up use 60+ size engines that need larger props.

I think Excaliber Eliminator props have carbon copies of the old Tornado 9/6 and 10/6 props.

Did you mean Eliminator props? If there is somebody making "Excalibur" CF props, I've not heard of them.  H^^ Steve

My mistake.  They are eliminator props.  Thanks.

The problem with Excalibur props is that you have to pull them out of a rock to get at them.  The Jive Combat Team can do that, of course, but the Excalibur props aren't hollow, so why bother?

They sucked because you should have been using the 10-6 Tornado. They pitched out less than 6 inches and worked well on most engines I tried them on, just had a hard time finding them. I liked the shape and look of them also.
I have been using the Master Airscrew 10-5 three blade prop with good results on some OS engines. I also used the 12-6 cut down to 11" on the St.51 in my Shark .45 also. They can be easily repitched if need be.
    Type at you later,
