Ryan Young
« on: January 18, 2014, 08:47:10 PM »
My grandson Ryan Young soloed in my Cessna 152 today. He is working on his private and doing very well . It's been many years since I have instructed and on some of the maneuvers he is doing better than me. But then again in c/l stunt he passed me up many years ago. I was concerned he would quit after winning jr. at the worlds in 2010. He still flies with us but not as much. I guess I'm a pretty lucky grandpa.   Bill Rutherford

You are indeed. Ryan is one fine young man, and Grampa Bill can take more than a little credit for it. Give him my congratulations on his solo!

Way to go, Ryan!  I remember when I soloed in a C-150 back in 1967.  It's a beginning.  Keep going!

I know the feeling Bill, however it wasn't my grandson, but my son. He was a Junior Champion in AMA Rat, but later on became more interested in sports than model airplanes. It was a grand day when he first soloed. He now has his commercial, AP/ IA and owns the FBO. I'm hoping that one of my grandsons would show the interest your Ryan has. Congratulations to you and Ryan both.

Get him into a taildragger to learn how to REALLY fly! But even with a nosewheel under him, congrats and salutations. I hope he sticks with it and starts work on an instrument rating to assure a long safe life as a pilot.

Way to go Grandpa,   Tell Ryan, just like stunt, when the engine goes silent, you have to land.

Congrats to Ryan!!!

The night I soloed was one of the most exciting moments of my life.

Did you cut off the back of his shirt?

Gee thanks for all the nice comments. No I did not cut of his shirt tail. When I soloed I missed that and so did he. Grandpa Bill

A perfect example of good people accomplishing great milestones in life.
I see people my age out there climbing mountains and zip lining and here I am feeling good about myself because I got my leg through my underwear without losing my balance
