RSM Mosquito Build (pics)
« on: August 09, 2009, 01:09:31 AM »
finally have the construction done on the Mosquito - Build article is 80% complete - will be 100% tomorrow and should be uploaded onto the RSM website soon

I still have the fillets to do - and a whole heap more sanding

Had a few challenges along the way and have some improvements to make to the kit - but all is well otherwise.  I can recommend this kit to anyone that wants a smart looking twin

Guys,
Would two Brodak .25's work on the Mosquito? Just wondering, since I have a couple looking for a home........

Thanks,
Jim

thanks guys -

Bill - engines are undecided at this stage - I set it up for OS LA25s - but might put 46s in it  >:D   Then thinking last night I might go for Evo 36s, or Enya 30s.

Lee - the build article I should get around to doing today (I hope) I will ask Eric Rule if I can e-mail you a copy. the props are 10 x 7 master airscrews - only for show at the moment.

Jim - Brodak 25s would be a great combo for this plane I believe

Built my pre-RSM kit several years ago and powered with Thunder Tiger 25s.  More than enough power and an excellent flying plane.

Looks great Wynn! I would suggest more oomph than .25's though. Keith Sandberg in our club used to fly one with two O.S..35-S's on it I think it was. He also used black Tornado 10x4's. It did REALLY well. The thing was a blast to watch go through the pattern. I just always feel that more power is good because you can always tune it back, but if you don't have enough to start with then it's a bigger headache.

 Now, about that B-25... ;D S?P ;D

Wynn, that looks pretty darn good!  I'm sure you could come up with a pretty good paint scheme for this plane.

I spoke with Jack when he built the first RSM proto, and he said he had 2 Fox's on there... and when one engine quit, he was pleasantly surprised that the plane was still "sorta stuntable" on one Fox. Based on that, I wouldn't put any boat anchors or hot rods in there. A pair of Brodak 25's or similar small light engines would probably be more than fine.

The Mosquito looks great.
I've had one of these kits for a couple of years (I think).  Jack's original had two Fox 29's in it and had plenty of power.  Two LA25's are planned for mine and I feel they have a lot more power than the Fox 29s....maybe even 35's.
I used a LA25 on a Ringmaster for OT Stunt for quite a while and it worked at least as well as any Fox 35.....lighter too.

Seeing this one boosts my interest in completing mine.
Thanks,

So nice to see models like this been built.

I use the Enya SS30, it is inexpensive and it runs so smooth with an APC 10.5x4.5. No need to change a thing to get repeatable steady runs. If you have any questions about the engine I'll be glad to help.

FWIW, Enya has a reverse crank for the SS30 and Zinger has quite a selection of props to make a pair work for you.

Windy said that having the engines spinning in opposite directions made a big difference on his B-25.

Very nice work. Looks like a fine kit.

I've seen Robert Compton's Mosquito fly and it is an impressive model.
